#45329, "Let's be reasonable"
|
I'm 100% in favor of staying in character. I try my best to do it. But, I do also realize that at the end of the day that this is a game between human competitors and considering the speed of the game there are going to be times when people skirt the edges of perfect RP in order to communicate with each other better. I'm perfectly OK with that so long as the players are making an attempt to RP and not blatantly going OOC. I think a lot of these issues arise from players just trying to keep up with the pace of the game.
For example, if I kill someone and they tell me "good fight" or "well done", is this really good RP? Hell no, but, does it bother me? Not at all. It doesn't because that person is attempting to be a good sport in a competitive environment and as long as that's the end of it, I'm not bothered.
Or the questions "Wish to group?" that many have pointed out already. I don't think this is the best RP either, but, I won't hold it against anyone who asks me this because I know that they are playing this game to have fun and wish to actually do something with their character instead of sitting in their guild typing "Good Sir! I send you my greetings! I am organizing a party of like minded adventurers to go explore the country side and you look like just the sort of fellow who could use some fresh air!" over and over again until they find people willing to group with.
Many of you may disagree with me, but, as I said below Rogue's post my brain just isn't wired to always come up with some great Elvish retort to a question or something along those lines off the cuff. When I write my role I also spend the time coming up with emotes and phrases I think my character will say to help me better stay in role because I know that when this game gets going it becomes tough to think of the appropriate way to respond IC without losing the moment. This helps alot but it doesn't cover every situation.
