#17771, "A response (and a few comments for Thorn as well)"

A lot of what I could say has been said by my assorted imm peeps, so I'll try to supplement rather than restate...

Thornarcrull did a lot of boneheaded things. . . but, he also did a lot of things "right" in a get-immteraction sense. He was a character who showed up regularly, and over a long real-life period of time. He was a guy who definitely sought out interaction with others both mortal and immortal, even though I have to question to what degree he was roleplaying vs. just playing himself. He wasn't typically shy about being logged on with a lot of enemies around (now, whether he'd *fight* those enemies against the odds was often a different story) and that has to work in your favor -- if I decide I need a high level evil for something and you're the only one on, there's a good chance I'll toss the opportunity your way by default.

Whether he was rewarded for his some good, some bad behavior is a matter of perspective. I mean, this is a guy who got thrown out of his cabal, spent some time unempowered at high levels, had several titles (about half of which were derogatory), and ultimately lost his tongue for picking the wrong kind of fight. (Side note: People, we don't really want to kill/maim mortals. Don't RP in such a way as to corner an immortal and force them to do something mean to you. It usually makes me feel bad. :p) I don't know, would you consider that rewarded? Arguably he could be, he got interaction... arguably he couldn't be, almost everything he got out of it was a punishment. Your call.

Thorn, re: the Silent Tower, Mask, etc. stuff and everything else I had going on: I definitely tried to toss you hints and things to play off of, like I did for probably another two dozen people at the time (hey, I was on a questy kick)... you made more out of it than some people, and less out of it than some people. That's on you. If I give someone a clue and they can't figure it out, that might just be the end of it right there. If I give someone a chance to interact with an NPC, that might be their chance to earn a lot more or insure I never bother them again, depending on their roleplay. It's all up to you.

I think Thornarcrull's problems as a player all really stem from one thing: He is always very sure he is right. This isn't necessarily the end of the world or a pronouncement of failure as a human being... point of fact, one of my best friends has the same problem. You need to learn to try to see things from other people's perspectives and admit that the opinion you form from your own viewpoint may not be the 100% factually correct one every time. For example, I was watching the events that led to you being thrown out of Scion and titled 'the Coward.' That definitely wasn't a suicide defense; you had the resources available to make a real go of it. There are a lot of things you could have done to try to see to the interests of your cabal without charging in to defend (although I maintain that was viable in this case); see my comments in Jhaelryna's thread for my thoughts on that. You decided to do none of those things and instead start talking to people about gear you wanted to get. That wasn't the right choice for a character who wants to stay caballed. Granted, I also watched as you told other people (later) about the gang waiting for you if you had defended, and you overestimated the number of people raiding/near the Scion cabal, and as best as my memory serves, that were even logged on at the time. I don't know if this was a mental slip on your part or if it's just one of those lies you told until you believed it or what.

Anyway. With the 'I'm right' attitude down a notch I think you'd have enjoyed the game a lot more, but I could be wrong.
