I'm jumping on yours I guess because I suspect that this is a glitch where we're not understanding each other.
I now suspect this is because I wrote that second part very poorly!
I meant to say, "Code is Features" and "Areas are Content". I guess everything is technically code though, so can you read between the lines for a second?
Alas, you've not actually attacked the idea yet, only the words.
>
> >>Zulgh look, take this statement, this is the base for this >>idea. >> >>Immortals have often pointed out that they put a lot of work >>into CF. > >I have put a lot of time into CF.
I don't really understand why you're making a distinction here, but OK, I'll use time instead of work.
> >>I think the implication is that you do not enjoy 'working' >on >>CF, right? > >I don't HAVE to work at CF. I choose to. My personal mantra >with regards to CF and Work is that if CF ever becomes worse >than my real-life job, I'll quit CF.
I mean.. OK. This is kind of avoiding the issue though, because I don't know how crappy your real-life job is, nor why you choose to stay at it.
> It's been really close >at times. CF is not a job to me. It's a hobby. When you get >to the point that I'm at, it is however much more >administrative, which is a lot like a job, and is something I >don't enjoy. I focus on what I enjoy (coming up with new >ideas, solving problems, coding those ideas/solutions). >
Well.. I guess I don't understand why the ranking immortals have to do the things they don't enjoy. Why wouldn't you lump the grunt/administrative work off on someone else?
Remember, these are not rhetorical questions.
>There are parts where you DO have to work at CF (Enforcing >rules both mortal and immortal, promotions within the immortal >staff, fixing bugs, etc). There are many that you don't. >
Oh, so a lot goes on behind the secret immortal curtain. I couldn't possibly know though.
I respect you a lot more when you don't need to resort to this argument, but yes - you know things I don't about CF.
>>I'm trying to make your life easier? Why .. would you argue >against me? > >You're trying to make my life easier without having ever >walked in my footstpes, or even knowing what I do here.
Is that a bad thing? If you would open the immortal curtain, I would be able to be more helpful.
> You >honestly don't have an informed opinion on the matter, you >just have an opinion based on inaccuracies. >
Well. Which inaccuracies? Once again, it comes down to the immortal curtain.
Honesty?
Now look, I'd like to just take your word for it, but frankly - the immortal staff lied to us for a good many years about the luck stat. I'm trying to use observations that everyone can agree upon.
>
> >>>be. This is not a stagnant environment. >> >>That's why I like muds. But why is it all or nothing? > >How many people still play the first Everquest? I'd guess >it's far less than at it's peak. They moved on to a newer >version with new features & content. >
Doesn't CF average fewer players now too? I don't get this argument. I don't know how many people still play. I am not fond of rhetorical questions. You make a lot of assumptions in this that are impossible to prove or disprove.
>>Why wouldn't quests and immteraction keep the mud fresh? > >Not everyone is involved in quests or immteraction. How would >that keep it fresh for everyone else? >
I would like it if everyone was involved with quests and immteraction. You're right, as it stands it might not be optimal fre####ude.
But not everyone is involved in all new 'features'.
>>Why wouldn't player RP keep the mud fresh? > >It doesn't now. I don't see that changing. The players may >prove me wrong, but based on 15 years of mudding, I'll stick >with my gut on this one.
So, you're just right because you're right. Right? (Again, you can use this argument if you'd like, your highness.)
To summarize what I'm proposing:
I think that content should be a much higher priority, because it would make the game more enjoyable to immortals and mortals.
I think that changes which make the game more time consuming are not the best solution to a problem.
