Chapter 2

Standing before the Commander, the blood of an invoker still fresh upon his
blade, Varaez was impressed by the strength and knowledge exhuded by the
human in front of him. Varaez wasted no time in telling the Commander his
desire to serve the village upon the path of a defender.

"I expect all of my defenders to lay down their lives for other villagers,
even when they make stupid mistakes." Varaez acknowledged and accepted this
command, as he would any from the Commander, however he questioned the wisdom
behind the strong dying for the weak, perhaps this was just his drow heritage
bleeding through.

"This village is my tree, and I shall see it grow" Varaez again listened to
the Commander, he started to speak but decided to keep his mouth shut. In
time Varaez hoped to prove to the commander that in order for a tree to be
strong the weaker branches need be shed and give way to their stronger
siblings.

Varaez had been accepted into the village, and began his training as a defender
he learned quick, and enjoyed several victories. Whenever he rested his thoughts
would drift to his brothers, and their motivation. It became clear to Varaez that
Matron Ilziraz had ordered his demise, unhappy that he was not a wizard. As such
Varaez decided to make the following his battle cry:

Elghinn ulu faer lueth ulu qu'ellar Azrel! Ilharess ussta velve doer whol dos!

Translated:

Death to magic and to house Azrel! Matron my blade comes for you!

Always he was reminded of the words of the Commander. Varaez decided that since
he did not fully agree with the idea of laying his life down for those who let
stupidity rule their minds. He must seek the wisdom of the Enclave sooner rather
than later, and set himself to the task.
