Chapter 3

I am now a true Paladin, and a learning Priest of the Spearmaiden. I have
begun calling Voralian City my home, but in Thera I still feel as if I am
a stranger.

The people of Thera are different. I knew this of course, though I did
not realize how different they truly were. The enemies are cold, callous
and ruthless, but that much I expected as well. What was truly surprising
was the outright foolishness and anger of so many of those who I might
otherwise claim to be allies.

Twice now I have been accused angrily by those who claim to walk a
similar path of my own. I am called arrogant often enough it no longer
surprises. But is it so wrong to help those to weak to help themselves?

From Baromyr, I always thought of Thera as a land hungry for heroes,
desperate to be rescued from the corruption that continues to feed upon
the weak and helpless. But what I find is half-hearted champions too
eager for a quick death to help themselves, let alone others. I find
half-breeds so anxious to ignore their past, that they let it consume
them.

This is not the Thera that I expected.

But I suppose that is why I should persevere. These people need me,
whether they can admit it or not. They need those like me. Those who can
see what must be done, and who can act without compromise. Particularly
now that I see so many are led astray. It is unfortunate that so many
refuse that truth, but I should not let that discourage me. I will not.

These past years have been enlightening, though not all in a negative
way. I have had the truest honor to speak directly with the Spearmaiden,
Lady Baerinika herself. My heart raced, my palms sweated, and my tongue
stumbled. But the Lady Jaguar seemed content enough with my potential,
and has set me on my path. No, I should say.. our path.
