Chapter 2

Before I truly understood the concept of this vile corruption, I felt a
calling to address it. And now

My family is nothing if not confident, and assured our people of my
success. From a young age, I was honored with the finest swordsmen as my
tutors. I was taught the ways of war, and the means to peace.

But even I knew, at that young age, that this would be a war won not on
the battlefield alone. This corruption was not merely an encroaching
army. My brethren have successfully fought raiding Orcs and even Drow for
thousands of years. But those skirmishes were nothing to what lie ahead.

I found myself in the church, more than I expected. We Elves are
religious, it is true, but we are also proud. It is a rare Elf that will
admit he needs divine aid to find success.

And yet I found myself praying for such favor.

Fittingly, it was at the altar that I realized the time was right. My
people had never partaken on this type of quest. I could never learn all
I needed here.

Surely there was a city in the desolate lands of Thera that was not yet
fully consumed. Surely there were others fighting this fight. Others who
could show me, as I showed them.

And with that thought, I left my home. The third of the third, but the
first to leave. I did not look back. They had their duties, and now I had
mine.
