Chapter 5

A few strokes of his hammer reduced the magical blade to ash and cinders, and
with its destruction Salyeris could feel the burden upon her weaken slightly
as the veil thickened. "Fine work Tahren, as always." The blacksmith just
gave a grunt and a nod to her before resuming his normal duties about the
forge and with that Salyeris began to set out but paused amount in the middle
of the room as she revelled in the weakened compulsion placed upon her by the
runes.

She had learned much as a Battlerager, about how the blood of mages impacted
the veil and about what things could be used to thicken the veil by being
destroyed in Tahren's forge. It had reinvigorated her to know that she may
truly be rid of the curse through enough effort. Just maybe, she would know
peace from it before she died. With that a brief moment of true happiness
came to her. She hummed a faint tune and twirled around in a spin, dancing to
the melody.

Lost in the moment, she did not notice Tahren had moved to gather something
near her. As Salyeris twirled she flung out her leg and was quite surprised
when she felt her foot bury itself into Tahren's stomach, Tahren letting out
a very surprised grunt as he got knocked to the floor. "Damn it, elf, what
the hell are you doing?!" Salyeris winced as she looked at the blacksmith, an
elven boot print clearly visible on his soot covered apron.

"Sorry master Tahren, something come over me and I just felt the need to
express it." Tahren stumbled to his feet an looked at her. "This is why we
shouldn't have you damned elven women in our village. Never seen a dwarf or
giant come in here and start dancing for no damn reason." He looked at her as
he made his way back to his anvil, "Now get the hell out of my forge before I
make my hammer come over your damn head and make your head really spin!"
Salyeris started to laugh, but noticed Tahren reaching for his forge hammer
and hastily exited the forge, not wishing to press her luck with the aged
smith. Still the smile remained with her though, in part for having felled
the smith in such fashion, but more so for the glimpse of hope she now saw.
