Chapter 6

"Come Kharnial! Let's play!"

Surrounding him were malfeasants and other bastard children of the
court of Udgaard. However, Kharnial knew he was different, knew that
the others would only tease him about his silver hair and his violet
eyes. The others were all purely human, for none had dared desecrate
another race before. None except his father, Udgaard Loke - after all,
if not him, who else? In his hands was a book of magic and the
outside world. He was always fond of animals - they do not judge, do
not scold, do not speak. How he often dreamed of leaving the dullness
of Udgaard, the brutality of his father and his demand for perfection.
Perhaps it was his difference that made him unique before his father's
eyes. Yet, whenver he stared at them, he could only see intrigue,
cruelty, and cunningness - nothing of care or love. He was merely a
plaything, a ploy to what he hears was his father's greatest conquest.

Ignoring the other children, Kharnial weakly stood from his bench and
walked to the confines of his room deep within the cellars of the
Palace. He knew it was soon time to approach his father in his daily
rulings over the court. If he was late once again, it would be a worse
punishment then before - he shuddered at the thought. Swiftly garbing
himself in a royal robe, placing various trinkets and gems on his body
to appear presentable, Kharnial went to his father's side in the great
Halls of Udgaard.

'Another boring and routine council where the old men talk about
trivial decisions. Oh, how I wish I could slaughter them all. With the
triumphant victory, I would destroy the court, the city, and drink in
their blood. Everyone would know it was I, the useless bastard son of
Udgaard Loke, the plaything who only appeared because I am beautiful.'

A soft chuckle emerged from his mouth during the middle of the session.
His father gazed at him with a promise of retribution. Alas, another
day of torment and torture, and it will continue. Only his books and
the silent thoughts of vengeance kept his interests.
