You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

#798, "Make nonpermanent affects evaporate while you are logged out"

Three reasons:

1) Won't have to spell up before quitting.

2) Takes away need to time logouts (for conjurers esp. you don't want to quit with a long conjuration timer left since that means you can't get new servitors)

3) Removes some of the advantage of logging in mid-raid

First off I'm curious what you mean by "nonpermanent affects". I assume you mean strip every affect you have when you quit except for stuff like a dragon hide, or a water breathing ring.

>1) Won't have to spell up before quitting.

I don't see why you "have to" do this today.

>2) Takes away need to time logouts (for conjurers esp. you
>don't want to quit with a long conjuration timer left since
>that means you can't get new servitors)

And what stops me from quitting/returning because my angel got killed? That IS the design of the conjurer class.

What stops me from just quitting because someone plagued me, or I got insanity for -1 hours, or any number of negative affects.

>3) Removes some of the advantage of logging in mid-raid

Which is fairly rare ultimately, and if that is really your concern there are better ways to take care of it.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

It's quite common to quit with spellbane/resistance up somewhere near Empire/Scion/Nexus. By doing this you can login and quickly retrieve while having powers up.

Probably it makes sense remove only cabal powers affects. Not all nonpermanent affects.

I didn't mean to have them all go away at once, but rather that they evaporate by something like 1 tick per RL hour.

>>First off I'm curious what you mean by "nonpermanent affects".

Anything with a duration that isn't -1 hours.

>>1) Won't have to spell up before quitting.

>I don't see why you "have to" do this today.

Of course, but its stupid not to since that prevents you from capitalizing on the surprise when you log in in the same area as someone in your pk range.

>>And what stops me from quitting/returning because my angel got killed? That IS the design of the conjurer class.

Having them go away slowly sort of deals with this abuse option.

>>What stops me from just quitting because someone plagued me, or I got insanity for -1 hours, or any number of negative affects.

Plague, rot, etc gives you violence timer I think, so that shouldn't be a problem. -1 insanity is permanent and shouldnt be affected.

>>Which is fairly rare ultimately, and if that is really your concern there are better ways to take care of it.

Thats a farily minor aspect. I just think it would make the game better overall.
