#397, "Gone for a bit in June"
Edited on Wed 01-Jun-05 10:20 AM

My times get a lot more sparse in the summer. I need less summer hobbies and more winter ones. Here's a rough schedule for June.

June 3-5th - gone backpacking

June 8-12th - out of town for a business conference

June 18-19th - gone for a paintball tournament

June 24-26th - gone backpacking

I haven't done much planning into July and August yet, but if there's anything significant I'll post it up.

No, not the AT. We're considering doing part of that next year, but it's a big undertaking and we haven't made any plans yet. My big goal for this year is to get to Isle Royale for a week or ten days in late August, but most of my friends aren't sure if they can take that much time off yet, and I'm certainly not going to solo hike in a new place for that long. Hopefully it pans out though.

What part of the AT are you doing?

Depending now on new developements in my family will determine if I go at all. We are looking at going from Davenport North, that is the north entrance to the Smokies. I have section hiked up to that part over the past 6 years.

IF.. and this is a big IF, everything pans I am planning on tackleing the daunting task of a through Hike. If it does work out and you would like to join me for parts of the summer I should be up in New England by that time. Pennsylvania and north is usually the goal by mid May for most Through Hikers. I can keep you posted if you wish.

#399, "But Aarn, you can play Paintball MUD instead!"
In response to Reply #1

As advertised on Top MUD Sites, someone made a Paintball-based MUD. That's right-- a semi-graphical simulation of a simulation of fighting with guns, complete with phat lewt (including the always-popular titanium pants). Note to self: Come out with a game called "Paintball MUD Coder", which would be a simulation of making simulations of simulated gun combat.

On a sad note, it's one of those icky free-to-play, pay-to-win schemes.

And as everyone knows, "For the vast majority, people will want the weight, commands, and respect that comes with paying-player status."

On a positive note, at least it's original. Most of the newer games debuting of late have been fairly generic entries into well-explored genres.

Wow, that's awesome. Now I need a mud where hiking in the woods with a pack on your back is the central focus. See, my problem with backpacking is that I don't like walking or being outside. This way I could enjoy backpacking without the hassle!

I'm an outdoors man too.

(Or I was)

My best friend is a semi-pro paintballer as well, and I have a semi-tricked out tipman.
