Why don't mobs get a second round of combat after they autoassist? Is this a bug or by design?

I believe this was intentionally added a few years back to combat the semi-bugginess/poor design of the fact that the act of "autoassist" gives a round of combat, and then any *regular* round of combat happens. IIRC, this was put into place after you'd see random offense shifter who rather than bite/rake/butt people, just spent their time levelling by flee/return/autoassist + regular round, flee, repeat.

Year ago mobs assisted almost instantly. Now, they are waiting up to three-four rounds before assisting (and that's a lot). Could you please take a look? It's easy to die to a strong mobs/ragers now (four rounds without rescue is a pain, they are able to flee-reengage-flee-reengage and zombies won't even touch them).

Usually, it goes that way now:

*** ROUND ONE ***

<100%hp 94%m 100%mv 3900tnl 1 PM civilized graveyard> The elite wood-elf warden's legs buckle slightly, but he fights off your spell!
The elite wood-elf warden devastates you!
The elite wood-elf warden devastates you!
The elite wood-elf warden's kick maims you!
The elite wood-elf warden is in perfect health.

*** ROUND TWO ***

<84%hp 92%m 100%mv 3900tnl 1 PM civilized graveyard> order all rescue Necro

The elite wood-elf warden's cleave decimates you!
The elite wood-elf warden's cleave decimates you!
The elite wood-elf warden parries your cleave.
A zombie of Some Creature screams and attacks the elite wood-elf warden!
A flesh golem screams and attacks the elite wood-elf warden!
A shining silver construct screams and attacks the elite wood-elf warden!
A shining silver construct's punch MUTILATES the elite wood-elf warden!
A zombie of Another Creature screams and attacks the elite wood-elf warden!
The elite wood-elf warden has a few scratches.

<75%hp 92%m 100%mv 3900tnl 1 PM civilized graveyard> Ok.

*** ROUND FOUR? ***

A zombie of Some Creature rescues you from the elite wood-elf warden!

Ok.

Hope you'll look into it! Thanks.

***** This does not count as a "round" ... Any non-damaging spell will open you up for a free few hits.

***** Mobs ARE lagged by murder and combat skills. So it looks like your mobs assisted right after your failed spell (note, that does not count as a "round" of combat), and were lagged for a round from that assist. After that, they rescued you the following round.

Looks to not be any bug here, but of course I'm not the authority on this.

When I played a necromancer last time, they could rescue almost instantly, in 1st or second round. Now, there is a loooong delay in which you can be dead already.
