#46801, "Well what a bitch. Why was Knute Randomly stepping out of shadows?"
|
And not just a little, but a lot.
Thief with perfected Hide and sneak. I just don't get it.
I deleted now before I wasted more time with something that seems broken.
Is it a gnome thing? Would an Elf or Drow thief also step out?

If you're hidden, sneaking, gnome-sized, and step out of the shadows when moving you're either entering a room with non-your-hiding-friendly terrain or you're doing something really, really wrong.
Edit: And if you're stepping out at other times, you're probably doing commands that don't let you stay hidden while doing them.

Yes. Because even the "wilderness" rooms in a city show up as civilized. And yes, walking hidden into the gardens in Voralian will pull you out of the shadows. So long, and thanks for all the fish!

I was playing a thief a long time ago and ran into this problem. It only happened with that one thief out of like six I've played. Hide/sneak mastered and I'd be walking throughout Eastern Road and randomly oome out.
I attributed it to some sort of bug because it hadn't happened with any other thief I've played or I hadn't even heard of someone complaining about this until this post.
Kind of like the rolled up a character and only had the sword skill.
I just deleted and made something else.

Things like plant growth, a fire, ashes left from a fire, congalaciation, and other room level affects will change the room to no-hide without neccesarily altering its "civilized" status.
Then you also have awkward terrain types due to overlapping/non obvious terrain types(Gardens in voralia, park in galadon, outskirts of hamsah for bedouins).
To my knowledge being giant sized is the only non terrain/trap/affect thing that will cause you to randomly step out while moving.

I believe this answer to be correct.
Edit: the other thing I've occasionally seen when people have prayed about this kind of issue in the past is, I snoop the guy and he turns out to be doing something as part of a trigger/gag setup that's unhiding him that he's not realizing he's doing.

especially considering how you crucify certain other people for using them.
All triggers that put commands into CF are bad in my book, even disarm triggers (but not bad enough for the imms to justify spending time trying to police this mostly inconsequential stuff)
