#41327, "Is it possible to "Hack" CF?"
|
Over the years I have felt that on a few occasions lag spikes seem to hit me more when I fight against specific characters.
Recently this has become INSANE when I fight against another certain assassin.
Is it possible for one player to overload another players terminal?
Could I be experiencing some sort of lag associated with his typing my name? I.E. trip assassin?
This is frustrating as hell and I just can't figure out why I keep freezing up when I fight this one guy or if he is on my where list.

I don't see how a player would be able to see a hack-induced lag spike induced to themselves when someone trips them, due to the fact that they are being lagged by the opponents tripping at the same time. Meanwhile, the explanation that OP is new and didn't know about trip and other similar skills being able to lag you is plausible.

I had a similar problem - I'd get these micro pockets of really nasty lag that I apparently didn't notice unless it was in PVP. It literally drove me to the point of throwing my mouse across the room in a shower of plastic and batteries.... Turns out I was having network latency on my LAN. Found this by running a continual ping to my router, to a known good website, and to the server IP. I play on wireless and since I'd setup my network we have new neighbors who swamped the wireless channel I was using. Changed to a different frequency - problem solved.

He thinks it's because my connection is going to USA and so is the other guy and that something is happening with our wireless routers that are over loaded so I notice it more.
I am really frustrated but I will deal with it better now that I cured the paranoia.

Consider the possibility that their is something occuring that is causing this phenomenom, not neccisarily a hack.
This is consistntly reoccuring with me and I am trying to figure out why I have huge spikes just as PVP is about to start and not as much or at all in other times.
If it's something I can clear up on my end I would like to know how! Thanks.

Not really, no.
About the most that I think is possible is lagging the whole game.

This is a chronic problem, and has been since I returned to the game. I've noticed that almost every time a fight begins with a PC, there is a lag spike. It throws off all of my timing, and I'm already kind of rusty.

Happened to me from time to time during last years, not one or two times. Sometimes even before the fight begins, but when enemy is in a few rooms and fight will begins in 5-10 seconds. In some such situations I've reconnected as soon as I've been killed, and game been going smooth for hours aftar that.
But probably you always had such lags, and just didn't pay attention while not in fight/danger.
You may never notice something until it's a critical situation.

I'm well aware of when I get lag. It's painfully obvious that it happens more when a PC to PC fight begins. Perhaps there are a bunch of hidden scripts that run as soon as it occurs, and that's slowing things up. But, my connection is very low latency.

When you post something on some forum (for example - on dio's), some people knows your IP (if it's static). If they figure out your character, they are DDoS'ing your IP or your whole provider ))
Or, they gave you some soft that is spying for your telten traffic and sending them copy of it. In first window, they see their character, in second - THEY SEE YOURS! And when you are in danger, thy are telling that spyware to lag you.
Third theory - imms are watching you and hate you. They are intentionaly lag your level 23 assassin vs level 31 transmuter just for fun and because they are sooooo evil.

It's not a conspiracy. It's just an irritating thing to deal with that is probably entirely to do with the processes that happen when a fight initiates.
Silly.

*If* people were experiencing lag more frequently during a PK fight, would it have to do with the fight queue mechanics?
Vs. NPC's, only one person needs to be updated constantly and the NPC's stats and scripts have less to update than a pfile. However, two people fighting where every part of their pfile has to be updated with every pulse, wouldn't that be a potential cause for lag? Or is that theory made completely invalid by today's technology?

Once everyone realized it could be counteracted by wearing a tinfoil hat it seemed to decline a bit.
