#39409, "Magic Resistance Races"
|
MAGIC DAMAGE Energy : magic, chaotic blast, asphyxiation, burst of energy Light : searing light, brilliant radiance Holy : wrath, divine power Negative : defilement, infernal power, black light Poison : poisonous bite, Mental : mental assault
Just to clarify. Magic resistant races (dwarf/duergar/svirf) only resist the damage done from Energy type damage? I.e. magic, chaotic blast, asphyxiation, and burst of energy correct? Because in my line of thinking that's the only thing that makes sense when duergar, as an example, are weak to Holy type damage (wrath/divine power) so there's no way they could resist it as well. And all three races also resist poison so I don't think they'd have a double resistance to poisonous bite attacks.
And as for spells, magic resistance confers an additional resistance on top of the damage reduction from a successful save or does it just mean that you're more likely to make your save vs spell akin to the Felar edge Magic's Scars?

You're correct about the damage types you list.
However, elemental damage can be considered magical or not. For example, lightning bolt is magic lightning, whereas call lightning is nonmagical lightning.
Edited to add: weapons with an elemental damage type are almost always considered nonmagical damage (depending on the damage verb).

It can mean something extra, depending on the specific spell, but in the general case it's just damage reduction when relevant.

I view it as invoker uses mana to rip/pull some ice from the elemental plane of ice. Or earth from earth plane. and so on.

Since Isildur seems to think it should be magic if it isn't already.
