Since I've been catching so much flack over "up and deciding to become a villager" with a direction-less, magic-using character, I would like to propose a solution.
Think Outlander... Wildtime, one must spend enough time in wild areas to even be Inducted.
On the lines of Battleragers, and magic, it's obvious and stated, there is no problem with characters doing a turn around, and scorning the magi.
How about a natural timer similar to wild-time that uses a ration of character hours, character hours and magic use, and possible even amounts of magic use.
Assuming someone wearing/wielding magic and quaffing potions his whole life would be a more hard up timer than someone whom has only used a couple scrolls/potions at one point or another.
This way, a new character that has used very little magic has a bit of time for cleansing, and a more seasoned character that has done his fare share of magic using has quite a while, before being able to make such a turn around.
Would this solve problems?
Any input?
