This char was not fun. I died at level 42 to the hero d-elf transmuter chancellor and got 0 commands in. Is that supposed to be fun?

I got rocked even in my home terrain by a swampdweller ranger just because he could land a dirt kick and I couldn't. Caverndwellers get a whole what 6-7 areas in the game where you can shine and my skills in my home terrain did not even fire as much as his did being in his non-home terrain.

Maybe someone can point me to a super-deathful fire ranger caverndweller that actually fought solo at hero to show me that this combo isn't completely laughable?

>I died at level 42 to the hero d-elf transmuter chancellor
>and got 0 commands in. Is that supposed to be fun?

What's supposed to be fun is running around killing other people while avoiding the guy who can totally smoke you. Scion chancellor with 9 ranks on you and choice gear certainly qualifies.

>I got rocked even in my home terrain by a swampdweller ranger
>just because he could land a dirt kick and I couldn't.

Some ranger builds are better at fighting other rangers. Sounds like this guy also got the jump on you and you failed to prepare for the tactic called "dirt/disarm". Or possibly "dirt/flee/ambush".

>Caverndwellers get a whole what 6-7 areas in the game where
>you can shine and my skills in my home terrain did not even
>fire as much as his did being in his non-home terrain.

That's certainly my reasoning for not playing a caverdweller. On the other hand, you get to totally screw people when you catch them in a cave.

>Maybe someone can point me to a super-deathful fire ranger
>caverndweller that actually fought solo at hero to show me
>that this combo isn't completely laughable?

Depending on how caverdweller bearcharge works outside home terrain, I could see you getting a decent number of kills with plain old snare / enlarge / haste / waylay / bearcharge. Don't need any terrain skills for that. Bu of course if that's going to be your bread and butter, why bother with caverndweller.

I can say that my experience was similar. Caverndweller bearcharge in my experience is no lag or less than 1 round lag, home terrain or not. ?Honestly I'm not sure why they have it at all.

>What's supposed to be fun is running around killing other people while avoiding the guy who can totally smoke you.

Please don't define fun for everyone.
For example, my fun is fighting, but killing isn't. What fun is to make other players suffer by draining their characters' con?

And yes, there is no ranger combo able to reliably escape "the guy who can totally smoke you" if they are caught. They are all about not being caught.

Khalgur, good luck with your next.

1.)That ranger is obviously an explorer so it was more or less a hometerrain vs hometerrain fight.

2.) if the only command you land in a fight is dirt then don't be surprised if you don't win.

3.) You got whaled on by 2 high level hasted mobs that you must have been fighting previously.

seriously it makes any terrain treated like hometerrain (so that means enhanced dirt for bedouins and marshdwellers in all wilderness, super herbs all over the place for plansrunners, pursuit everywhere for plainsrunners and marshdwellers, etc.)

its going to be slightly less then in actual home terrain because every time a wilderness check is done the wanderlust skill is checked but once wanderlust is perfected you suceed over 90% of the time easily.

1. Attack another ranger BEFORE he enters into your snare. If your snare ability is low, make sure you create snares whenever you can to increase the skill, not merely whenever you need them.

2. If a swampdweller dirts you and you do not have permalagging ability, run until you can see.

3. Swampdwellers get great progs on their staves. Get it out of their hands. Ideally you will have curative preps.

4. Improve your terrain-based skills through practice. I have played three caverndwellers, though not fire giants, and by the time I hit level 40 or so my fights in a cave could be compared to a ping pong ball trapped in a shaking shoebox.

again though my frustration is with another terrain ranger's skills going off more than my hometerrains.

pretty sure rebounding strike and the like were all mastered also

It doesn't look so much like the other ranger stomped you, as it does the mobs that chased you down stomped you. But He was definitely an explorer, which can be nasty when paired with something like a swamp or bedouin. I've only played one caverndweller before, and that was a felar hunter, too. Very defensive, but not a powerhouse. And bearcharge sucked.

Small ones, but lure your opponent in. USE CAVERNFALL. No offense, but you played badly in that log. Work on that first before attacking the usefulness of the class.

Strike first. Feign weakness. Run to cave. Cavernfall and/or snare. Apply preps. Kill.

There is a cave right off eastern road in fact. I'd choose Caves as maybe 3 most abundant terrain tied with mountain. forest first, plains/hills second.

Fire giant probbaly isn't a great choice for ranger either. Remember they weren't originally even allowed to be rangers.
