#83285, "[FORTRESS] Arinayar Ala'Irilan the World's Most Delightful Outpost, Cardinal of the Golden Sun"
|
Arinayar Ala'Irilan the World's Most Delightful Outpost, Cardinal of the Golden Sun
DescriptionA stunningly beautiful, clearly inwardly focused young Elven woman does not seem to pay all that much attention to her surroundings. However, subtle gestures acknowledge your presence even if she does not answer your gaze. Completely unphased by your presence she continues whatever is keeping her occupied.
Her physical appearance is that of lithe Elven elegance and softness. Her movements are controlled and nimble, her tall stature enhancing this perception of frailty, although she does have some wiry strength to her. The frame of her body shows true feminine beauty, her fair countenance only enhanced by her bright blue eyes and flaxen blonde straight hair that falls well beyond her shoulders. Two immaculately woven braids start at both her temples and conjoin behind her neck, gracefully absorbed by the rest of her delicate hair.

RoleChapter 13 Questions with unsettling answers, a conversation with Mormeth Added Tue Dec 5 06:58:57 2023 at level 51:A fellow member of the Cadre approached me. He was guided to me because of my expertise with the cards. We conversed a little, testing the waters, quite respectfully as one would expect at the Cabin.
He showed me the palms of his hands, each adorned with with a tailed star. Such was a medium of prophecy I had not yet heard of. Mormeth spoke of a new era, of shadow and ash, about how the tailed star was a harbinger of change. Empires crumbling, Towers of magic and might toppled.
He spoke of potential, things that might be. He sought me out for a reading, guidance, to learn what will happen.
I explained the Wheel of Fate to him, and did a full drawing. Mormeth exclaimed that Spirit, Lightning and Magic spoke to him most, but that Ice was his curse.
He thought about it and his first choice was Ice, I draw that card, revealing The Lovers:
| They speak of Balance, temptation yet commitment | Of choices, a past that lies behind you, moving forward to the future
His second choice came easily, Lightning. Again I drew that card, now it was The Magician:
| The Magician uses his knowledge to find his future | He controls what is around him, actively shaping his future.
| The Lovers and The Magician form a very powerful combination, it speaks of confidence
For his last choice Mormeth looked at the bond with our Lady, Spirit. Somehow I knew what I was going to reveal before even touching that card ... The Star.
| The Star means holding on to faith, the hope to achieve the future you seek.
All of this was VERY unsettling. I have done only one drawing of equal potency, for myself, and the consequences were disastrous. A path is rarely laid bear this clearly. I sense danger, vast peril.
I must keep an eye on Mormeth. Guide him, for as much as he lets me.

RoleChapter 12 A vision into the Past. Added Sun Nov 5 04:58:32 2023 at level 51:As Arinayar settles in for rest, her meditation just finished, she lays herself down. Relaxing her breath, she falls asleep. Very soon a feeling comes to her, of falling, of going back. A vision comes, a scene from 400 years ago is brought to light once more ...
At the edge of a meadow, near the woodland edge a hare plows through the snow, her coat equally white, revealing the dark soil below. Unexpectedly the load croak of a frog emerges from the nearby woodlands, startling the bunny. As it darts away, the hoot of an owl softly breaks the nightly silence, then fades away into complete stillness once more.
Two pairs of feet softly approach, each step accompanied by a mild crunch as they break the thin layer of frost. It is the longest night of winter, just 3 AM now as the two figures approach a small altar, set against that woodland edge. It is a pedestal of a simple, hexagonol shape. At the middle of the top a time worn symbol of the Sun has been carved, only the top half. Most of its rays move upward, but some pierce downward.
One of the figures runs her hand, glowing with fire, across the relief. As she does this the layer of frost disappears.
"Guard over me my love, as I call upon the Light" she whispers softly but sternly.
The accompanying man answers with a silent knowing nod.
Nodding slowly, the woman proceeds as planned. Deliberate and slow, her gestures seem to build up momentum. As she waves her arms in this intricate patterns, Elemental powers arise and vanish. On and on this continues, unrelentless, stubborn. After some time a ball of bright energy emerges between her hands, just above the relief, not touching the cold stone. Multi-colored it too seems to consist of all elements. Sweat now runs from the woman's forehead as she shapes this orb to her will. All colors merge and become the brightest light. Not blinding, but soothing and warm against winter's chill.
Soft mumbling can be heard now, barely audible, of the Elven tongue. Over and over, a prayer about love and a marriage, not blessed with childbirth.
As the litany intensifies, so does the orb. Finally, as the hour of 4 AM is almost upon them, the shape of the orb seems to shift. With that, the woman collapses to the ground, her magic totally spent. The man rushes to her aid, lifts her up. Doing this they see a baby, of Elven kin as they are, lying on the altar. Silent, barely moving but very much alive.
Lovingly man and woman whisper in unison "I call you Arinayar Ala'Irilan, born from Ice and Earth, from love, guided by Light. We will raise you, guard you as our own."
As both stand up, they bow with reverence towards the altar, the woman lifts the baby up. The man supports his wife as they return home. Everything is dark once more, silent, ere dawn rises.

RoleChapter 11 A treatise on Fate and Revelation - Part 3, Appendices Added Tue Oct 17 04:07:58 2023 at level 51:Appendix A, Means of communication ==================================
There are many ways in which an Oracle can communicate. These can be, but are not limited to:
* Spoken word. Either as a traveling prophet or stationary hermit * Poetry or song * Visual art
Appendix B, Wheel of Fate =========================
There are many ways to lay cards so they can be drawn, either by yourself or any participants. As I always had innate affinity with the Elements this is a pattern that felt natural and very close to my heart:
f I m \ | / A - S - W / | \ l E o
1. First the Spirit card, right at the center 2. Above it the Ice card 3. Earth below
This is the soil, the foundation.
4. Left from Spirit on an horizontal axis goes Air 5. Right from Spirit on the same axis goes Water 6. At the bottom left, between Air and Earth comes Lightning 7. At the bottom right comes Ooze, between it's two parents Earth and Water 8. Opposite that comes Fire, between Air and Ice. 9. The last card fills the hole, the Magic card
The Magic card is reversed to mark it's difference from the Elements. The effects of that card are equally reversed and hard to predict.
This is what I consider a full read, the choice of which cards to draw can depend on the time, the day, ... or the choice of a willing participant. Three cards is quite a lot already, the consequences can be perilous as I have personally experienced.
Appendix C, A single card to read a person ==========================================
A single card may be drawn to ascertain a person's disposition. To get a proper reading it is recommended that the target is a willing participant. I know from experience this can be quite revealing and surprising.
Appendix D, Sources ===================
Surprisingly there was little I could find in written form. One tale was brought to my attention that can be found at the Lyceum behind the Inn of the Eternal Star:
- Encore! Wizardry, Betrayal and the Return of Gaspare
Although prophecy is not the main topic of this story it does take a key role as it sets the protagonist on his fated journey. It is likely that the author, using the terminology described in this treatise, can be described as a Novice. Someone with good initial knowledge and enthusiasm, but perhaps not the desire to research that further
- Personal experience
As a youth I was very much a recluse, I kept mostly to myself and could be found a lot at the parental library. Although I cannot remember the names of all the tomes I read they instructed me into the art of card drawing. That includes the Wheel of Fate described in Appendix B.
- Eternal Library
Unless I overlooked or misunderstood the information gathered there I did not find anything related. Needs further investigation.

RoleChapter 10 A treatise on Fate and Revelation - Part 2 Added Tue Oct 17 04:04:55 2023 at level 51:Chapter 2, The Uniniated ========================
Anyone who is not aware of the grand design and the mediums through which hints are provided, may regard a deck of cards simply as a tool for play and amusement. Unaware of its potential they will miss any deeper meaning and will not perform any interpretations. While technically still performing the duties of an Oracle, they are Uniniated.
Chapter 3, The Novice =====================
Someone who takes the mediums serious and treats them with the respect and care they deserve yet may not be aware of the grand design. These are often enthusiastic, but inexperienced practicioners looking for guidance and answers.
Chapter 4, The Aspiring Oracle ==============================
Is aware of the existance and the importance of the grand design. Understands the gravity of it and why full disclosure of the Fates would be disastrous. Has had contact with the Divine or actively seeks their guidance.
Chapter 5, Oracle of Fate =========================
Fully tuned in to the Revelation of Fate, spreads and translates Divine prophecy. Is well versed at interpretation and communicates in ways that most people should be able to understand. Remember that even for an Oracle the Mists of Fate are never truly lifted, so even his gospel needs thorough contemplation and reflection.

RoleChapter 9 A treatise on Fate and Revelation - Part 1 Added Tue Oct 17 04:03:37 2023 at level 51: ORACLE, GUIDANCE THROUGH THE MISTS OF FATE A treatise on Fate and Revelation, Prophecy and the Interpretation of the Divine message
by Arinayar Ala'Irilan
Opening Words =============
We mortals are on a finite timeline. We all are part of the grand design devised by the Divine. They decide all possible outcomes and set each of us upon a certain path. Through our actions we influence our own Fate, by making ourselves less or more interesting. Possibly changing the outcome that is planned for us.
We mortals are not privy to any of this which means most of live in uncertainty. This leads to an important question: 'Why do I exist, what is my purpose?'.
Preface, the Mists of Fate ==========================
Not knowing our destiny has an impact on us all, some seek to create their own, others might meditate for inner peace, others might rebel and so on. For most it would be very tempting to wish to be able to look beyond the Mists of Fate, but that would be very perilous. If a mortal truly knows what lies in store they would become obsessed with that knowledge. Assuming that their path is set, they might stop living, waiting for the day of reckoning. Others might refuse this and fight against the grand design.
However, there are clues, if you know how to look for them. There are many mediums, personally I gain insights by drawing cards. The information gathered from these cards needs to be interpreted, the cards are vague and not easily translated into fact. There are so many factors, so many choices that would influence the outcome of a drawing.
Assuming a sufficiently correct interpretation is made, one may gather hints on what lies in store for that person in the near future, be it good or bad. Interacting with these future events one may improve his position within the grand design, aligning them better with the general purpose that was decided for them.
Chapter 1, Oracle =================
Oracle, definition:
... Anyone acting as a medium through whom advice or prophecy is communicated by a Divine source.
All the Divine take part in crafting the grand design as discussed. There are however only a few who are tasked, or perhaps willing, to communicate prophecy to us mortals. During the Age at which this treatise is written this is Lady Joihe and Lord Einoh.
As a follower and one who aspires to be an Oracle to Lady Joihe, I dedicate this treatise to her honor.

RoleChapter 8 Joihe's allure Added Thu Sep 28 12:07:21 2023 at level 51:Arinayar always felt some inner trepidations when it came to Joihe. Not about meeting her, but meeting the members of her Cadre. They could be anyone, perhaps even, anything. Now that she has shed the dust of the past, she feels excited. Excited for the promise of adventure, closer insights into the divine design of the Architects, amongst which Joihe is chief. Her power, her divine eye unravels the mists of time and the planes. She is privy to knowledge of which many mortals cannot even fathom its existance.
As an Acolyte of the Fortress she sees meeting Joihe as an opportunity to learn. To cross bridges. To find better understanding. Although Joihe is indifferent to the struggles between Light and Dark, she can be instrumental to the understanding of such. She can prove to be a medium to better understanding, better understanding may lead to compassion, compassion may lead to acceptance.
As a member of the Fortress one may never turn away from any chance of redemption, no matter how slim. If a sliver of light exists it must be nurtured, allowed to blossom. An outsider's view, one the Cadre may offer, could lend a fresh perspective. Opening such doors is an exciting prospect.

|
RoleChapter 3 The World and The Tower Added Fri May 12 14:13:03 2023 at level 1:Awoken from her sleep, Arinayar stumbles down the stairs, unexpectently arriving in the midst of an intense fight. Her father, an accomplished veteran of the Darsylonian Guard, is using the narrow space of the hallway to his advantage to hold several raiding Orcs. Her mother, bow in hand, letting lose when opportunity arises.
The Ranger yells to her daughter "Back, GO!!", the intensity of her face frightens Arinayar. Shocked and uncertain what to do next Arinayar just stands there, unable to cope with the suddenness of this situation.
In the meantime the assault has proven too much for Arinayar's father, overwhelmed he is brought to the ground and slain. With their berserker rage, it does not take the Orcs long to reach the mother. Flustered she lets lose another shaft, but it only nicks one of her attackers, no time for a proper draw. Soon she joins her husband's unfortunate fate, unable to withstand.
At that a banshee-like shriek pierces this scene of violence. The Orcs halt, startled by the ferocity of it, only now observing the new arrival. It would be their last glance as a bright red flashes, blindlingly fierce, if only one would have survived the intense burning that accompanies it.
When darkness and silence returns, Arinayar lies on the stone floor, drained and unconscious, she also close to death from exertion.
After a brief while voices can be heard, folk from nearby Darsylon have come to investigate. They find Arinayar, surrounded by Orcs and the bodies of her parents. A white-golden glow emits from the hands of one of the newcomers, with that Arinayar springs back to life, coughing and shaking. "Come, let us get you to your family" a gentle voice whispers, softly leading the young Elven girl out of the carnage.

#83306, "Arinayar's Role Chapter 2"
|
RoleChapter 2 The Wheel of Fate Added Thu May 11 14:51:35 2023 at level 1:One dreary evening Arinayar, a young adolescent, sits alone at a round table. It has been aesthetically placed in the middle of a round chamber, high up in the tower, tallest feature of the mansion where Arinayar lives with her parents. She puts the book she was reading, titled "Elemental musings and the Poetry of life", away into a dark-wooden cabinet within arm's reach. A fervent enthusiast of word weaving, she has enjoyed it's inner musings, but has now become too tired to continue.
She now turns her attention to what she would call 'lighter entertainment', a deck of tarot cards.
Looking upwards, she softly talks to a figure perched on the sill of a higher up window, "How am I going to do this tonight, Cornelius?".
Enthusiastically it responds "hoot! hoot", for indeed it is an owl Arinayar is talking to. Though, it would seem unlikely that there are that many like this one, it seems to be fashioned entirely out of earth, twigs and leaves and whatever else may be found on and within the soil.
Seemingly satisfied, Arinayar separates the Arcana cards from the Minor cards, "these will do, this eve" she says.
She shuffles the Arcana cards and stacks them. "First the Spirit card, right at the center". "Hoot!" acknowledges the owl, "Above it the Ice card, Earth below, as it should be." She continues placing cards as she described, one above, one below the Spirit card.
"Along the horizontal axis go Air and Water, in that order", no answer from the owl this time.
Now also silent, Arinayar continues to lay cards down, between Air and Earth comes Lightning, at the bottom left. At the bottom right comes Ooze, between it's two parents Earth and Water. Opposite that comes Fire, between Air and Ice. The last card fills the hole, the Magic card, it is reversed to mark it's difference from the Elements.
f I m \ | / A - S - W / | \ l E o
Leaning a bit back, Arinayar looks at the wheel of cards she has created. The owl hoots softly.
"Do you think I should be brave, Cornelius?"
No answer.
"Fortune favors the bold", with that Arinayar flips the Spirit card.
- The Tower -
Arinayar cannot help but gasp as she says the card at the center of the wheel.
Slightly hesitant now, she reaches forward to take the second card as planned. Her hand quickly grabs the Magic card and flips it.
- The World -
Now visibly shaken, Arinayar seems shocked at this revelation.
"A violent change, an end to a cycle. That does not bode well ...", Cornelius softly howls an acknowledging "hoot!"

|
RoleChapter 1 A world in herself Added Wed May 10 14:45:38 2023 at level 1:Talking and singing softly, Arinayar sits on the grass all by herself. She seems enthralled by brightly hot embers that whirl around her upheld fist. Swirling rapidly they race up her arm only to find their original spot once more. As they do, Arinayar softly yells 'Skip, fetch!'. At that a white in white bunny, seemingly consisting of hardened ice and snow, leaps and jumps forward as a ball of sparks flies away, abandoning the perch that was Arinayar's fist.
With a silent bang the ball explodes as the rabbit catches it with a massive jump. Gleefully Arinayar claps her hands, giggling with pleasure. An unimpressed voice at her left side says "ribbit". Seemingly unharmed from snatching those bright embers, the bunny returns and hops around Arinayar's feet. Disapproving of all that hyper activity, the voice repeats "ribbit".
The bunny returns and hops around the feet of the young girl, still nothing more is uttered than a deep 'ribbit'. Looking down to her left Arinayar looks at a frog sitting next to her, responding "Come now Luthor, I don't see you doing any better." The frog, fashioned out of ooze and vitriol, now remains silent.
A few yards back Arinayar's parents watch as this scene unfolds. Wondering how they can support this clearly gifted, but oh so introverted young little Elven girl.
