It's the actual hits appear to be less strong than they are. e.g. You'll take 90hp of damage and see DISMEMBER when you should be seeing MANGLE. But your hp themselves will be accurate.

You can't tell what maladictions have been done to your stats. e.g. You can't tell your current strength.
