One simple way to avoid this sort of attention is to simply not allow other players to know who your characters are while they are active.

I'm just curious as to who it was, and if they are still allowed to grace the fields in light of that, that's all.

They aren't, for that and many, many other reasons. Past behavior suggests that the person in question will try to play around the ban, but they run the usual risks doing so.
