Chapter 5

Galadon! A city of concrete stone! How has this city risen? It is more than
just huts! Wow! Amazing. Here, I learned of a new way of life. What is
hunting, when you can use money to buy food? Why do you need to sharpen your
knife, when you can get the blacksmith to do it for you? What is so valuable
about Gold, Silver and Copper, that everyone wants it? I do not know, and I
probably will never understand it fully. I quickly found myself helping out
in the soup spoon, serving food and cooking. I also helped around moving huge
crates of shipments for the weaponsmith, and the warriors guild. The
Guildmaster said he could accept me as a trainee, but I would need to pay a
fee. Up to then, I had never needed the coin. The Soup Spoon provided me
food, and I liked to go the Silverwood in the South to idle my day to relax.
On other days I watched the adventurers train in the Arena. Yet something in
me desired more. To grow in Strength. To never have to run. To be able to
fight. I asked the weaponsmith if I could be paid for my work. He laughed.
"I thought you would never ask. I am not a slavemaster. Here, Ive been
safekeeping this for you for this day". He threw me a bag of coins and I
immediately ran to the warriors guild. "Sire! I would like to join."
"Hah! Well there. Welcome then. Train, and become a Legend of the
Battlefield." For many weeks, I trained like no day and no night in the
Arena. I watched adventurers come and go. "Where do they go?" I asked
the Guildmaster.
"Why, on Adventures, of course!"
"Do they not fear death?"
"Of course they do. One never knows. But does that stop one who has taken up a life of adventure? Surely it cannot!"
"What if they die?"
"That is what you are training for, no?"
"What do you mean?"
"You will understand once you pass this phase of your training, son."

Further weeks passed, and the day had come for me to become a member of the
warriors' guild.
"Congratulations! You are now done with your initial training. As a reward, we have prepared a feast, blessed by the Gods. Come by to the bar, and we will serve all the Graduates tonight"

That night we feasted. We drank. It was a night to be celebrated! I was a
warrior! As our inebriated souls roared in celebration, I vaguely remember
our guildmaster announcing to the room - "My graduates! You will no longer
fear death... for now. Those who are here tonight have partaken in the feast
blessed by the Gods! The Gods now bar your soul entry into any other lands.
You will have to live your life out as an adventurer and make the most of
it...for the Gods' entertainment."role + What did he mean? I did not understand at the time. I only know that I awoke
hungover, my memory hazy - a recurring theme in my life, and that I was
instructed to make my way to the Academy.
"Your adventure truly begins now, Son."
