Physical strength is easy to understand and it's what Jaulvad valued before.
But he met many different people already and he begins to value strength of
soul even more, based on his experience of communicating with them all.

Villager berserker Bjorfurohk didn't attack Jaulvad who was already hurt by
fighting the imperial shaman and Zelisha's guards. This villager also barely
escaped from Jaulvad when the human found this minotaur already convulsing
and missed his assassination attempt. But Bjorfurohk didn't blame Jauvlad in
anything, the soul of this minotaur is strong. And Jauvlad respects him
because of it and gave his word not to attack this minotaur first anymore.

At the same time there is azure-touched bard Peloniph... Earlier Jauvlad has
killed Faozora and took her hummingbird pendant and few other things a shaman
of 27 tittle shouldn't have. Later young human met Peloniph in the Inn of
Eternal Star and offered to trade this hummingbird pendant for the very good
blademaster's gloves this azure-touched had. Peloniph agreed, but said that
they need to give each other armors by giving them through neutral thief,
member of Heralds, Gherod. So Jauvlad gave his pendant to Gherod and then
Gherod gave it to Peloniph, while Peloniph gave blademaster gloves to Gherod
and Gherod gave it to Jauvlad. Later Jauvlad also gave his old gauntlets of
ogre power to Gherod and Gherod gave it to Peloniph. Young Jauvlad simply
thought this Peloniph is a pledge to Heralds because they greeted each other
with Gherod, but later it became known that Peloniph walks freely within the
Fortress of the Light. Once Jauvlad learned about it, he became really angry
at oath breaker Peloniph and young human reported to the Fortress about this
bard's actions. Some people have strong soul, some have no soul at all...
like this azure-touched bard. These are to be culled from Thera forever!

Another good example would be outlander pledge Llortos. This warrior was
running from Jaulvad for a really long time, but eventually died when got
stuck in the whirlpool in Aryth Ocean. But this dark-elven warrior never said
a single bad word about Jaulvad and never complained in any other way. Thus
this human understood flaws of Llortos (not using magic much and not having
enough different potions in hands) and did his best to explain this warrior
where to get the sources to trade for different useful magical potions.

There were many other different meetings in Jaulvad's life, but they all
taught that strength of soul is much more important than usual physical
strength. He respects it in others, he will never dishonour himself by not
having this kind of strength. He swore not to ever give up by just dying to
someone, or even dying many times. In fact Jaulvad secretly is waiting for
it, he wants real challenges. Still young human didn't meet any real
opposition yet, but when it happens - it will only drive him to fight harder!
