Chapter 2

There is a topic you will come to know means a great deal to me. This writing
is only my memoir, not my definitive work on that topic, but I shall mention
it here none the less. Persuasion. Persuasion is the most fascinating and
useful of disciplines. In those early teen years I began to explore this
unknowingly. Venom, and the threat of venom, Persuaded my charges to speak.
Venoms hold a dear place in my life, but only because of the power they give
me to Persuade.

You have likely noticed by now my written words are uncommon for one of my
kind. Depending on how other texts record or me, or if you read this while I
still live, you may also notice my writing does not coincide with my ever day
vernacular. As it is said, one can take the duergar out of Gird, but not Gird
out of the duergar's mouth. It is for the Witch called Ishuli I have learned
to write thusly. And, it is for her library I stretch the limits of my
Persuasive skill.

How I became so dedicated to Persuasion brings us back to my dear Elbio, and
to the day that would forever change the course of my life. With reluctance,
I shall now recount it.
