Chapter 2

He moved forward into the next room finding a lone music box. Something
tugged at him compelling him to pick it up and wind it. He knew he shouldn't.
Felt he mustn't. His hand move on it's own picking it up and winding it. The
box popped opened as the music started to play. Yet nothing came out of it.
His head started to spin slowly around as he hit the point his neck couldn't
move past.


A cracking sound was heard as his neck snapped in it's continued course. His
head spun fully around before the skin on his forehead started to part
horizontally with two more lines appearing just below his nose and just above
his chin. His flesh parted with a little ballerina appeared inside his
distorted head. It dances and spun in a circle as the haunting melody


enchanted the room with it's eeriness. Soon the ballerina fell over limp the
music dying down as she started to laugh slowly growing louder. The paladin
felt and heard everything his sense of reality slowly shattering as he
questioned how was this possible? The ballerina clawed at her own face as
blood pour out dripping drown his chin. He felt his hand rise to claw at his
own face before...


His face slowly closed the wounds and the seams of his splintered face went
back to normal. He looked down at the music box before winding it
again....the process repeated. Time and time again. How many days did he
spend consumed by this process? How much blood could he taste in his mouth as
the ballerina ripped her face apart? When would this all stop? An eternity
later or a mere moment later.


He couldn't tell the difference between the two, but nevertheless he was
simply standing alone in a room. A library well lit with candles and a warm
fire place. The room was spotless as if it had been well taken care of. In
his arms a woman with fair white skin nestled into his arms. The horrors of
his recent venture slowly fading from his mind as he pulled the warmth of her
body closer.


She smiled up at him with such beautiful teeth. Such sharp teeth. Suddenly
she felt so cold as she bit deeply into his flesh. His warmth slowly
draining into her. Everything fading from him. His memories. His feelings,
his life, his sanity. It was all hers. He heard a laughter echoing and he
thought to himself not again. As it grew louder he found it wasn't echoing
from the house.


It was his own laughter. The joy of it all as he kissed deeply savoring the
taste of the corpse he had his tongue shoved into it. He stood up twirling
the corpse about as if it were a dance partner. Saying in a dashing manner
"I'm sorry my love, but I must cut our dance short. I have something to
attend to." Dropping the corpse then before leaving he bows to it.


He looked around him to find himself at the entrance of the mansion. He
twirled about to face the door opening it knowing full well it was never
