Chapter 2

Zsztyrr crept quietly through the web-lined cavern, taking
care to avoid disturbing the multitude of spiders skittering
along the walls and floor. She sought the blessings of their
master! To carelessly crush a few, or, worse yet, rouse some
venomous brood to anger, would make a poor impression.

The cavern was so wonderful! As if it took the best parts,
the wild and the dangerous, from her former home in the
Underdark, without the stain that was Teth Azeleth. So
engrossed was she in every minute detail of the cavern
that she nearly stumbled into the imposing figure at the end.

"Drehir! Midnight Spider," she stammered, while scratching
nervously at her left arm. Her long nails came away with bits
of skin and fresh blood caked underneath.

She gained the blessing of the awakened Ancient, but was set
with a task. Prove her skill at deception in bringing death
to her foes. She set about quickly, when a young necromancer
sought her aid in luring another into a trap. For hours, she
prattled to the mage regarding strategies and plans, earning
his trust. The web of deceit woven, she led him down beneath
Galadon, supposedly in search of a blade. And then, with him
oblivious to all danger, she shoved the necromancer through
a hidden chute and then dove in after him. The Underdark,
where she had spent so many countless hours! The betrayal
complete, she loosed the wrath of Drehir upon the mage and
left the corpse for the carrion crawlers.

Her newfound patron, however, was unimpressed. She set off,
making her way to the surface, resolved to better that
early feat.
