Description

A shadow lies heavily upon this drow, shrouded as she is in a robe
of the darkest black. The skin of hes face is taut, stretched back
across sharp cheekbones. She is pale, nearly translucent, and a
spider's web of purple veins splay visible across her face and hands.
A tangled mess of silvery hair falls from her head, stretching down
to near her waist in places. Part of it has haphazardly been tied back,
but the vast majority hangs down wildly. A satin cord of silvered thread
is tied across her waist, and only here do the voluminous robes hug
tightly to her stick-thin figure. The nails on her fingers are chipped
and stained with both dirt and blood, as her hands twitch rapidly in
claw-like motions. The priest moves with the grace common to her people,
yet there is something feral and untamed about her...

Blessings

Zsztyrr crept quietly through the web-lined cavern, taking
care to avoid disturbing the multitude of spiders skittering
along the walls and floor. She sought the blessings of their
master! To carelessly crush a few, or, worse yet, rouse some
venomous brood to anger, would make a poor impression.

The cavern was so wonderful! As if it took the best parts,
the wild and the dangerous, from her former home in the
Underdark, without the stain that was Teth Azeleth. So
engrossed was she in every minute detail of the cavern
that she nearly stumbled into the imposing figure at the end.

"Drehir! Midnight Spider," she stammered, while scratching
nervously at her left arm. Her long nails came away with bits
of skin and fresh blood caked underneath.

She gained the blessing of the awakened Ancient, but was set
with a task. Prove her skill at deception in bringing death
to her foes. She set about quickly, when a young necromancer
sought her aid in luring another into a trap. For hours, she
prattled to the mage regarding strategies and plans, earning
his trust. The web of deceit woven, she led him down beneath
Galadon, supposedly in search of a blade. And then, with him
oblivious to all danger, she shoved the necromancer through
a hidden chute and then dove in after him. The Underdark,
where she had spent so many countless hours! The betrayal
complete, she loosed the wrath of Drehir upon the mage and
left the corpse for the carrion crawlers.

Her newfound patron, however, was unimpressed. She set off,
making her way to the surface, resolved to better that
early feat.

Chapter 1

Beginnings

Zsztyrr was born to a minor noble family of Teth Azeleth, the
ninth of nine children. Hers was an unplanned pregnancy. She
knew this because her mother reminded her of the fact at ever
opportunity. With her siblings, her parents had plenty of heirs,
many of them apt with both blade and magic. What little attention
she received from them was always negative, and so she and her
parents were both content to largely ignore her presence. She
was despised by her older, and more accomplished, siblings, and
burned with jealousy and hatred for them.

School, however, was a chore for the young drow. She was
inattentive and disobedient. When, after a few years, she showed
little competence with either spellcraft or swordplay, her parents
withdrew her from school citing the cost to their stretched budget
and the shame of a failing child. Left to her own devices, young
Zsztyrr began to roam the lost and forgotten corners of her
Underdark home. In her wanderings, she spent weeks at a time away
from Teth Azeleth and grew wild and unruly. Many secrets, small
and large, she discovered in the caverns. The most important of
which was a colony of strange spiders. Nearly translucent, each
a finger length long. She trapped one in a jar, infuriating it
in its terror and confusion. Zsztyrr released the spider upon
a sleeping cat, and, in its pent up anger, the it bit the feline.
Within minutes, the tabby lay lifeless upon the ground, dried
spittle caking its mouth.

Zsztyrr spent many months plotting and scheming, until she had a
stockpile of captive spiders. In the dead of night, she returned
to Teth Azeleth and crept into the bedrooms of each brother and
each sister. Into each bed she released a swarm of angry spiders.
She then slept, hidden away in a dark corner of the family
manse, and woke with pleasure to hear the anguished cries of
her near childless parents. Of nine, only Zsztyrr remained. And
she remained only long enough to slip from the city. Death had
come for her family, and she was its instrument.
