Chapter 3

In the crisp morning air a crack of a twig off to the side of the Eastern
Road caused Tangis' eyes to snap towards the sound. Jremulek's large blue
hands snapped tothe handles of his sheathed swords and drew them with practiced
ease. A moment later a savage yell screamed from the roadside and a band of
duergar raiders darted from the woods. The foul warriors, with wicked
looking axes held high, charged towards Jremulek and Tangis.

Tangis instintictively readied himself in a defensive stance so that he
could assess the deadly situation, and Jremulek instinctively bellowed a
blood curdling warcry and charged towards the assailants. Tangis cringed
fearfully for Jremulek's safety, they'd gone over these situations in
training time and time again, but it was clear to Tangis that Jremulek
would never have it in him to err on the side of caution. There was
something different about this giant, something that he had never
experienced with his past warrior apprentices. Unlike the other boys,
Tangis did not believe that Jremulek would ever turn in his swords for a
plowshare. There was a fire in this lad, a fire that burned for the War
against the darkness that was descending over Thera. Tangis felt that if
the champions of light were to ever burn away the darkness of the land,
there would be only bittersweet happiness in the heart of Jremulek.
Tangis was convinced that the lords put Jremulek in these lands for one
purpose, and without that purpose Jremulek would be a lost soul.

The duergars were taken slightly aback when the storm giant charged them,
this hadn't been in their plan. The duergar war party stood no chance.
Even though he was a little nauseated at the sight of the dismembered
duergar limbs and the spurting of their blood, Tangis' heart still
swelled a bit with pride. Jremulek moved with uncanny grace for a being
his size. It was almost as if he danced with the the duergars, and the
ringing of his giant weapons was the music to which he moved. When the
killing was done, Jremulek wiped down his swords as Tangis has trained
him to do, and resheathed his weapons.

Tangis walked over to him, never having left his original spot, and
looked him up and down admirably and said, "Jremulek, when we get to
Galadon we will be going our seperate ways."

Jremulek looked at his revered teacher with shock and answered with his
deep voice, "What have I done? How have I dishonored you."
