What about lances? They do pierce through shields or even break them?

Maybe on from horseback or in a movie.

Think polearms specs are highlighting that they don't have a maledict attack which can effectively cripple another.

Well, right. But dagger specs don't have a defensive skill, and sword specs can't stop you from fleeing, and...
