My personal opinion is that clothing & equipment should be talked about in general (old, creaky, worn, new, etc) and specific pieces shouldn't be described. I can see a sword-spec warrior claiming to have two swords in his hands, or at least sheathes on his hips or whatever, but not massive claymores, thin rapiers, or whatever.

The focus of your description should be about you, not your equipment.
