Chapter 2

The portal opened in their small cave in the underdark with a pop. Out
stepped three drow, dressed in simple black robes with runes on the hem.
Kariagar lunged for his crude sword, while his father grabbed at the daggers
he kept under his small pillow.

Hands raised almost in unison pointing at Karigars father as flames lept from
fingers surging towards the drow. The cry of pain echoed across all of the
underdark at that point. Kariagars father whiped two daggers, one from each
hand, that landed in the hearts of two of the mages. Kariagar, with savage
abandon lept at the last one, his sword slashing. Crude strokes of a young
fighter did what they needed to though, and the mage fell in a heap.

Kariagar moved over to stand over his fathers burnt frame.

"Theres no hope for me now. Only for you. In a place where none would have
taken you in, I did. Now I ask only one thing. End this scourge of magic in
our home, in our world. No one should have this kind of power, no one
should..." coughing came then as blood spilled down his chin. Kariagars
father went limp then, and his eyes stared off into eternity.

The next sound to resonate across the underdark was that of a heartbroken
duergar boy.
