Chapter 5

Gasping for air, Jenno reached for a nearby tree for stability. Her
clawed hand cut grooves into the bark. Standing behind her, a loathesome
devil covered in dripping black tar shambled about, muttering and hissing
terrible words. A faint halo of blue coalesced around the conjurer,
enveloping her form in protective magics. Her breathing calming, Jenno
took in deeper and deeper breaths. The shield flickered, splintered,
and flowed into Jenno's body. Breathing easier now, Jenno's eyes rolled
back into her head, and a menacing grin appeared on her face.

These hits of magic were starting to become more and more important to
Jenno's existance. With the Battleragers fighting hard to strengthen
the veil, her lifesource was beginning to falter and fail. Like an
addict, she found herself consumed in the all important task of opening
the veil and tapping the mana storms beyond.

Mounting the summit of the hills, she gazed down at her target: The Village
of the Battleragers. Rising up behind her, a massive elemental and the
bearded devil lay in wait. Raising her clenched, and decaying hand, she
motioned silently. The trio floated down the hillside in persuit of
an unsuspecting warrior...

-Later-

Howling in delight, Jenno stood over the corpse of Thirisg, taking in
the mana rays of the night. Her thirst slaked, she turned from the
corpse and looked for more.
