Chapter 2

Taking a knee before the Chancellor, the hulking form of Ulamette sagged for
just a moment with some measure of relief. All these years searching to
traverse the same dark path of becoming as her mother. All of the deception,
death, and destruction that can be had as a leader of the black sects armies.
And finally, the chance to show her true quality as a scion of the eternal
night.

The memory of a conversation came unbidden to the fore of her thoughts, a
response to the Voice of the Scarab when asked of her path in the Empire.

"Destruction for destructions sake is easy. To excell, one must first create
something great to destroy."

She always knew it would be this way, and now has come to find a lair more
fitting of someone of her strength. She came in to the scions as another
anathema before her breathed life into a portal to call the nightwalkers to
ravage the land.

She had no idea how dire the situation was for the dark armies of the shadowy
planes, though. Not only was the scepter inert, but the bounds between the
prime and the planes of radiance had let a thread remain linked with this
world. She vowed to make the soul sacrifices necessary to bring power back to
the chasm where it belonged, and to fulfill the prophecies of the Eternal
Night in the face of the hardships caused by those of the light, so greedy
for their own ends and yet entirely blind to the truth in their souls.

She rose from one knee after the Chancellor gave her a dark kiss, born yet
again. First in chaos, then in order, then in balanced darkness, and now a
Scion.
