Chapter 5

I turned my eye to religion. Being a freelance warrior, I thought of paying
homage to the Lord of Strife, Jormyr, who makes no difference of good and
evil but cares that the struggle continues. I saw him as a personification
of primal elements, who are not evil, but are there to make us strong.

I fought side to side with his priestess Amaya, and found our thinking
aligns well. I know destruction is a means through which I could make the
world better. It appeals to my pride as a warrior, to my long-suppressed
savage instinct.

And that is exactly why I will not take that path.

The dream I had has revealed another option. After a red herring chase
through Organia and a string of seemingly odd events I found my way into a
garden citadel, where an ancient elf, the spitting image of the one from
my dream, revealed himself as Magus Ignolmeer.

We spoke of fate and choices, and I remembered that, once, I had already
contemplated coming here to seek blessing. The idea of making the world
better by teaching, inspiring, showing example appealed to me greatly,
although there had been more than a healthy dose of ambition on my part,
a desire for respect and status, something I was denied in my hometown.

It took time to understand that success in bringing people up to height is
also its own reward, and there is more that I must learn about this calling.
I am willing to learn.
