Chapter 2

After many years of schooling, Wiglaf began to feel restless. She was nearly an
adult and had been thinking for some time that she might like to see the world
outside Hillcrest. She had been in touch with some members of the warrior's
guild, and through those connections she lined up a job guarding the merchants
and farmers on their trips into Udgaard to trade copper goods, carrots, and
other goods.

It was a relatively easy job, although she did get some experience fighting off
the occasional bandit or rogue jaette. Most of the trips were dull, and she
passed time talking to the farmers, other guards, or travelers, trying to pry
stories from them about fantastic places they'd seen or adventures they'd taken
part in.

The guard job lasted a little while longer than she expected but eventually
Wiglaf decided it was time to strike out on her own. Leaving Hillcrest was a
big decision, but her parents were supportive after she explained her thinking
and, anyways, had known for a while that she was destined for a more exciting
life than the village had to offer. Roinald had done a bit of travelling in his
youth and gave her a letter of introduction to take to the warrior's guild in
Galadon, which he suggested would be a great place to get started with her own
adventures...
