Chapter 2

This day would change the course of Akedeh's life forever. As he twisted,
parrying the quick sure strikes of his father's weapon, the sea of wheat
rolling all about them. Two quick deflections and then a snapping strike,
his cudgel slicing so quickly through the air. Just then his fathers foot
caught and he stumbled forward, his face moving directly into the path of
Akedeh's not so practice weapon. That moment, death dancing on the air,
Akedeh's father opened his mouth and a blast of green flame engulfed the
cudgel and the very arm of Akedeh! The cudgel crumbled to ash before it
even had passed through the sickly flame, and the young son fell to the
dirt writhing back and forth on his hand to put the flame out.

Weeks of pain, self loathing, and utter contempt swallowed Adekeh's soul.
The days when the hurt in his right arm was not so vicious as to make him
squirm in agony, his thoughts could only encompass the depths disgust he
had for his own dad. This must be why his mother had ended her own life,
it wasn't because of the depths of depression that knowing the disease
spread. Adekeh rolled these thoughts through his mind for weeks before he
was strong enough to act. All in a single night he gathered what he needed
to survive, maps food and water, he gathered his cloths and his weapons.
Then, in the dead of night he slid into his fathers room and with a single
tear in his eye, he drew the dagger across the neck of that man whom he had
held in so much admiration.
