I have read older posts on this but still are not clear. I have always explored with a mage and used identify but was thinking of using a bard or thief (appraise) or a gnome/svirf with loremaster.

Could you explain the differences between them all please.

Lore at 100% = mostly accurate but not 100%

Loremaster = identify?

Appraise (thief) = identify?

Is the appraise skill attained through observation xp identical to thiefs?

In my experience,

thief appraise = identify

100% lore = identify, except on weapon avg. and even then, just lore it several times and the real avg. will turn up most often.

Never seen an appraise skill from obs xp.

Just thieves maybe. I get all the other observation skills but never appraise.
