If a minotaur never sees what he sounds like to others when he types then it means he won't always be thinking about it when he writes. If 1 mino hangs out with another mino they see all the time just how ####ed up their accents are. Should mino's have this embarassed awareness of their accent?
It seems like Mino's are the Rastaa's of CF but actually _realise_ that they are incomprehensible and take on a form of OOC embarrasment around this.
I'm of the opinion that Minotaurs should just be talking away normally and be unaware of the problem it causes others. Just like any other dialect Minotaurs should be able to completely understand their bretheren without difficulty.
ie if there are 2 minotaurs and a human and an dark-elf in a room together, should all of them have the same difficulty understanding a minotaur? Similarly RP wise minotaurs have lower intelligence than Dark-Elves to work out what the -####- Minobuddy just said.

You believe because minotaurs speak screwed up as a whole together and because of this social interaction all Rare mins seem to be having that I havent noticed, they should understand eachother... So what doesnt constitute then them entirely not understanding everyone else then.
My point was regardless what race, you as a minotaur are <Meant to not be understood well. Wether you are a minotaur or not, you shouldnt just Know from time what a Min is saying exactly. Dialect, accent, these are all different than speech impediments. Very different, an impediment is not a dialect, it is what it is and is for a purpose, hard to be understood.
Being as rare as the race is, the argument that other races of Min have some social habitat in which they have learned to understand each other is kind of weak. They are rare, therefore have (imho) no social background as far as a society as a whole, to understand each other. A min is a beast, accept it and play it, or delete an let someone else have a go. Early bird gets the worm, Second mouse gets the cheese!

I have an idea of what would likely have been deleted here, and I have to voice potential agreement (so long as it wasn't too offensive ).
Let me start off with saying that I think the minotaur speech impediments are the worst addition to CF I can think of. I used to remember the Immortals talking about hitting any idea with a "fun stick" to see if it was worth adding... in this case, it was hit with a "fun armor-piercing sniper round" and died only to be reborn into a grotesque, undead version of fun.
To continue, "speech impediments" are shared by an entire race of people, regardless of it's cause (physical deformity or not), ARE a dialect (taken from dictionary.com):
- A regional or social variety of a language distinguished by pronunciation, grammar, or vocabulary, especially a variety of speech differing from the standard literary language or speech pattern of the culture in which it exists: Cockney is a dialect of English.
- A variety of language that with other varieties constitutes a single language of which no single variety is standard: the dialects of Ancient Greek.
- The language peculiar to the members of a group, especially in an occupation; jargon: the dialect of science.
- The manner or style of expressing oneself in language or the arts.
- A language considered as part of a larger family of languages or a linguistic branch. Not in scientific use: Spanish and French are Romance dialects.
I would say that items 1a and 2 are both immensly relevant to this situation. The minotaurs, as a group, all have an identical speech impediment. That becomes, by default, a new dialect.
Now, as for them understanding each other... well, of course they should. Human beings aren't born understanding each other; they have to learn it. How do they do so? By listening to those around them and learning what all those funny noises mean, and then how to reproduce them. I have enough faith in the noble minotaur that if he lives his entire life listening to a particular speech pattern he will learn to understand it with ease.
Much like the difference between people from Alabama and Boston here in America, it might sound like a foreign language at first, but it's easy to understand if you've lived around it for a while.
If the Imms want to wave their hands and say "game balance", then great. However, Mr. Ed could talk just fine and he was a )@(*@#)$ horse

I enjoy it and it only took about five lines of >code to implement. So, on the immortal fun stick, it was >worth the miniscule effort. S'cool, that's why CF's a multi-person team. I didn't mean to imply that I had The One Opinion (One Opinion to rule them all....) on things, and I'm not trying to take a knock against the creative talents behind CF: mad props and all that. I was mainly trying to illustrate that the rest of my post was struggling against a somewhat hefty bias. The vast majority of creative additions to CF are positive ones; there are just a few, such as this, that are a black smudge. It just strikes me that one the one hand, you have these huge nasty carniverous bovine things that are out to murder the world... and then they talk and sound like a g*dd*mn children's toy where you push the picture of a cow and it moos. Doesn't quite click for me.
I also think kindergoths (18- year olds in black and playing with Pokemon whose only depression revolves around not affording the latest pop CD) are a gross transgression against the entire world, but that doesn't keep much from going to the movies/mall/wherever.
As for it not ruining the gaming experience... well I tend to roll with it when I have to deal with minotaurs, but I try to avoid putting myself into a situation where I would be required to roleplay with them because it DOES bother me. To that extent, it does take away from the gameplay experience. I'm sure there are others like yourself who do enjoy minotaur speech, and get a kick out of it. However, there are also people who enjoy setting themselves on fire, so to each their own. That's not a direct comparison, mind you... I'd rather be on fire ;)
