#2458, "Energy drain"
|
Personally I would classify this as a bug, but as I think it's been like this forever, I decided to post it here as a game balance issue: energy drain on sleeping targets, i.e. how the caster is currently guaranteed a successful energy drain (if he so wishes) on the prone victim, because a failed attempt won't initiate combat. Even if a failed drain does no damage/harm (the reason it currently doesn't wake the target?), you could argue that the victim is initially shaken out of his slumber by the spell starting to take hold, but he might still resist its actual effect as he comes to. Agree/disagree?

As you surmise, the current functioning of energy drain is not an oversight on our part.

Disagree.
Pain wakes people up, and since you didn't cause them any pain, they didn't wake. I can't think of any malidiction that doesn't cause pain that wakes a sleeping target. I think that it's the very reason that energy drain does that widdle iddy biddy piece of damage. (So you can't just keep draining a sleeper.)

I think, from a realism sense, that I'd be more "shaken" by having my body rotting away, or a crimson scourge taking hold, or having a ringing in my ears from deafen. *shrug*
