#21442, "Tribunal Evidence"

Preface:
I got warranted when I thought I could get away with a crime, got pissed off and then deleted.

To enjoy the game, I'd like to understand tribunal law works so I can play both sides of it. I've always been perplexed by what I perceive to be inconsistancies in the law. I'm talking about how much evidence is required to condemn someone.

Let me describe the situation I experienced today. I am invisible, and my victim doesn't have detect_invis up. I catch up to him fighting mobs in Voralia city and attempt to magic missile him. I lose concentration (and never become visible). He runs away. Where checks out clean, and there are only about 15 people online. The only tribunal on is off-duty and on a different continent. I find out Voralian king-pin is hiding in area. Remember victim yelled "Die someone you sorcerous dog!" <-- anonymous.

About 20 minutes later the tribunal whispers me and says, "Did you attack so and so, I have witnesses". I deny it with confidence.

About 1 hour later, I'm idling in my guild hall spamming spells. Tribunal walks in, and kills me. "Oh by the way all of my witnesses gave me enough evidence to condemn you" <-- witnesses were a victim who didn't see me and a thief who saw "die someone!"

I lost it and broke some game rules before deleting. But this is my frustration RIGHT here. Forget the fact that the tribunal pegged me correctly.. How is this enough evidence to condemn me? If the who list had 60 people on, I would of been okay.

I've always assumed that Tribunal had to operate under a structure of reasonable doubt. This situation screams of reasonable doubt to me. It frustrates the hell out of me that I lose out because the tribunal has such a small who-list.

This is not how to handle the situation:

1) You, an Orderly character, commit a blatant crime in a protected area.

2) You're the only person who could have done it, and Tribunals have useful tools to help them.

3) You are correctly flagged for the crime.

(Tribunal) tells you 'For striking the Storm giant in Voralian city.'
(Tribunal) tells you 'There were enough witnesses that place you in that place.'

You tell (Tribunal) 'I did no such thing though.'

(Tribunal) tells you 'Return to Galadon for your things'

You tell (Tribunal) 'I didn't ####ing attack him'
You tell (Tribunal) 'YOu ####ing moron.'
You tell (Tribunal) 'congratulations. one less player'
You tell (Tribunal) 'Delete delete'
You tell (Tribunal) '####ing idiot.'
Takezenallan tells you 'Enough witnesses placed you as attacking him'
You tell (Tribunal) 'THat's nice!!!'
You tell (Tribunal) 'I didn't ####ing attack him.'
(Then your little trip to the REalm of the Dead, where you pretended to not have done this sort of thing umpteen million times before.)

I'm updating your forum ban. Please stop assuming new identities.

The current stance is you can flag someone with some doubt, just don't be wrong.

Some tribunals have powers to investigate a crime.

That it's a roleplay game and everyone isn't perfect, and there are people playing roles that allow them to do whatever they want to do with the characters in question. Pretty much if you're going to break a law in town, always assume you're going to get caught. Recently I broke a law in town, the Tribunal in question wasn't even online, guy logs in, the person I attacked told him I attacked him, and because the Trib didn't like my character, he flagged me anyway. Is that right? Probably not, did I break the law? Sure. Did I expect to be flagged? Not really, but I'm not going to bitch about it because I did break the law.

Basically Imms and others are going to listen to you when you DONT break the laws and get flagged for it, but not before. Until that happens, if you break the law, and you end up with a flag, don't complain, no matter what seemingly shady means the Trib in question comes to the conclusion of reaching the decision to flag you.
