You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

#819, "Remove penalty for short logins"

Dear Santa Zulg,
my wish would be to remove the penalty thats placed on a character.
I dont know the exact details of that penalty besides that it also gives you some -Morale but I dont think a deterrent like that has a place in modern-day CF.

I doubt it stops people from logging out when they have to or want to, but I know for sure that it made me think twice about logging in if I am not sure if I can spend an hour logged in or not.

Uhm...as far as I know nothing like this exists. We do keep track of short logins, and people who are constantly doing it tend to get a talking to.

Honestly, if you don't have time to spend 10 minutes in game...why would you log in? How are you actually contributing anything to the game at that point?

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Never got one of these talks but I will search for some logs.

Why? Who knows...
Maybe just to check notes or kill a mob or two, maybe to get some gear, or to look if someone is online that I would like to talk/hunt/whatever.
Maybe something interesting happens and I decide to play a bit longer.

Why is it about "contributing" and not about playing a game?

Logging in, locating some objects, looking for someone, then logging off isn't playing the game.

I looked through this code, and the affect is minimal, and the person that it screws is the person who constantly does this. I don't have a problem with that.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!
