You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

Some of the special-purpose forums are listed below along with their replacements (as of writing):

#50, "Global Echoes when a Cabal Item is downed"

The echoes could mention who took it, or not, but I think it would be cool if, say, the Outlanders took the Codex and everyone saw:

From the recesses of the unspoiled wilds the Ancients of Thar-Eris howl triumphantly as the grip of civilization grows weaker.

This could be something to build on later as far as additional effects, but the echoes in and of themself would be cool.

Some sub-form of this might make a cool edge or ability of some classes/etc., much the way anyone with detect magic can keep an eye out for major fluctuations of the Veil even if they're not Battle/Nexus. Examples:

I could see city thieves having the kind of information network to get a chance to know when the Tribunal/Outlander/Empire items especially go up or down, either as a new function of one of their later path skills or as an edge.

I could see Heralds getting a good chance to get word of this stuff.

Maybe high level paladins can get an edge that might update them when the Fort/Empire/Scion items move. (If you're a caballed paladin, this is probably already moot.)

And then everyone and their brother knows that Empire is down, and all we need to do is hang around near the Outlander and defend/vulture and we can get some phat lewtz!

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

But it would be a cool addition. I'd dig it.

Or you could alter it so that instead of a global echoing detailing where the item is downed, the echo would be the guardian dying (such as destructor, archmage, and so on).

I would like to see more interactivity like this and I bet it would be neat to all the newbies playing to see Big Things happening.
