#43, "'Chaotic Stupid' sub-thread from Double XP"

*** In the interests of not derailing the thread, I'll move this to your forum. It may even entice some folks to reply. I'd like to see Jalim and some other folks take on it, and frankly I think Batman and Baron would have fit right in at that time and could benefit from seeing the discussion. ***

>If you thought Zizzle did 'chaotic stupid', you totally didn't
>understand the character at all. He did what Entropy was
>"supposed" to be about. The reason Entropy went away was
>because it became 'chaotic stupid'.

I know well enough that Zizzle was what Entropy was supposed to be about.

The inherent problem here, my friend, is not him getting your tattoo or lack thereof. In this particular case, your tattoo is irrelevant barring giving out exp rewards.

Keep in mind you're the same person that empowered and enabled, if even indirectly, Aunkdunell and then called him a sterling example of good Entropy RP. Other people rewarded him for his crappy behavior as well but I'm just saying there is no way you can take exclusive credit for guiding or having had Zizzle as a follower, he could have feasibly existed under Grumorum, Mayesha or Pico and their respective religions, even as dead Gods today and probably gotten as much love.

By contrast, any good Aunkdunell did was far outweighed by his own behavior. The OOC forums and logs just magnified it to, in my mind, the level that kind of behavior should be examined and dealt with. Obviously you and Nepenthe disagree.

Zizzle was a good example regardless of whether he killed anyone or not. Aunkdunell was as interested in griefing his opponents as he was killing them, and you have comments plastered all over his PBF thoroughly enjoying his generally OOC malicious behavior. Whether you like to say there was no one better at that moment or not, Leadership is a reward even if you're the lucky last tool standing.

The comparisons and contrasts between the two probably don't need to be rehashed. Zizzle was clearly superior.

>
>Entropy was done for long before I immed. Outlander was in

>

And it's an understandable decision. However much you want to justify it going though, the game lost something when it went that it never recovered since. Whether this is because only a certain percentage of the folks who were in that cabal have given you a chance at all is probably a topic you don't care to hash over something five years gone.

It was more accessible previously, and that it continued to liven up the game. Entropy, by it's very structure, couldn't really create massive permas or behavior of the kinds of players and people that have been making leader the last six months, or the well-structured roving groups that have been driving some of the real underdogs up the wall on both sides of the alignment spectrum.

Entropy wasn't about raiding persay, but the ones who were 'chaotic stupid' didn't get in unless the patron Imm was in a particularly good mood that day. Even then they usually got uninducted an hour later. It wasn't about PK ratios, although it could have been if your role was good enough, like Zizzle's for instance. It wasn't about making the patron imms laugh, but the members as a whole, even the PKers, darn well tried their hardest to do so over CB. It wasn't about praying they were watching either and not cleaning baby vomit or watching the Discovery Channel with the family, but I guarantee you with the advent of the IMM-XP-Edge system people would definitely 'get' Entropy and not act 'chaotic-stupid' anymore. It was, and still would be, also restricted to the numbers of Scion by nature.

Now the behavior of the hero level cabal leaders won't affect player retention unless it's players who have been here at least six months and started trickling to 40+ somehow, but my point is that if they met some 'chaotic stupid' wannabe Entropists (that weren't yet another air/off gnome shifter) it just might keep a couple more players around and ease some of the frustrations of the game, even if they were failures.

There's probably the argument 'If you want to do that, do that, you just won't be getting the original power set.' That may be true.

But more importantly you lost a camraderie and cabal channel that not only was full of potential allies, enemies, knowledgeable vets in the mood for a laugh and newbies who didn't have to care about preps and raiding. I only had one character in the damn thing and it sure was more memorable than any caballed character I've had since, and this is speaking from being involved in the quest to bring around Outlander as a Tribunal.

Plus I'm willing to bet at least one of the ex-imms of that cabal has gotten good enough in PK since to lavish attention on good solo killers without ever having to hand out a single point of Imm XP, and still has a good enough head on their shoulders to break their foot off in chaotic stupid's ass when it needs it. It was a safe bet that two out of three of the patron imms of that cabal were by no means masters at that point in time.

Things are different now, and more condusive to it being around. You might be happy there, and I really hope you turn out more Zizzles and less Aunkdunell with your religion and cabal leadership, just like I hope the Imms stop pretending CraftedDeception's cabal leaders are pleasant to play against the way he trucks 1-4 other people around constantly. But I'd probably find the game signifigantly less irritating as a whole if I was using Doppel on some cabal leader and then holding interviews and then writing notes to that leader's cabal. Just as an example.

I think you just got a taste of Aunkdunell's bad side
and deserved it, or believe what you read too often.

If you're going to debate a point or inquire or something,
that's one thing, but get your background and facts
more-so right than your warped view of characters you either
didn't understand, or participated in the mob against, because
log is scripture on QHCF.net

Aunkdunell had a tattoo because he was a doer, because he was
passionate about not caring, because he invoked, predicted,
and manipulated emotion, because he made hard look easy, and
evil look good. I was also sitting on ####-ass odds most of
the time and lived like no tomorrow.

I'll just say this, if you want to begin to understand, you have
to let go of the conviction to why you don't.

Aunkdunell was not chaotic-stupid, and not a griefer. He was
"griefed" a hell of a lot more than anything he did within
the evil lines of roleplay, AND, a lot of it was funny, depending
on who's watching.

I have as many memories of what Entropy could be on its better days as just about anyone. And, no doubt, it spawned no shortage of very memorable characters.

Your vision of the running/policing of Entropy and the ease/difficulty thereof is a lot more rose-colored than the reality ever was. You still could and did get sizeable permas in Entropy. Bad/annoying/stupid people could and did get inducted and stay in.

Sometimes that's because the imm in charge or doing most of the inductions at that moment was too lenient, or their times didn't line up well with the problem people, or whatever, but there it is.

To make an Entropy run well, I think you'd need an imm that plays a crazy lot of hours but is also very willing to throw people out or punish them. They can't delete, get busy in real life, or get bored. It's not impossible, but it's a tall order.

I'll move this post here as well.
_________________________________________________

Aunkdunell was the major impetus for me going after Lyristeon's tattoo. I hadn't planned on following an Imm or joining a cabal pre-Aunkdunell bruhaha.

However, public sentiment became so anti-Aunkdunell and in a way Anti-Lyristeon that I wanted to highlight that the Imp's religion (in my view) wasn't just about so-called griefing. It really was whatever you wanted to be, so long as you invoked strong emotions in those folks you interacted with. I tried as best I could to do that in a way I found enjoyable. I hope most of the other folks I dealt with felt the same way, whether they were a friend or an unfortunate and completely unforeseeable fatality resulting from my explosive brainectomies.

As an aside, the big joke with Zizzle was that everyone *expected him to be a con-artist due to his fast-talking "huckster persona." In reality, he really did offer the best services at the lowest prices, or as close thereto as I possibly could make it! Yet another reason I dislike the role command, as this idea didn't come about until after I had already put pen to paper so to speak. If I roll another character, I'm going back to my role command boycott!

Further aside: Lyristeon, I wish I was able to catch you before I deleted. Thanks for the tat, my courage, and everything else!

I think I've been around CF for nearly 10 years. Could be 9. Was Entropy nixed way before that? I remember Sylvan plenty well. I think it was lame in comparison to Outlander.

Anyway, the trouble as I see it is that Outlander just seems to have become Fort with evils and neutrals. Things are a lot different from the near-beginning when it was Tjok running around. He didn't have huge pk numbers, but he was a great example of patience, persistence, and soloing. I remember the cabal being a lot more like a "do-it-on-your-own" place. I think Lyristeon is to blame only in the sense that no one has stepped up to take his place. Lyr is a great imm - one of the better ones. The problem is that there are too few visible (and invisible) imms watching over Outlander. As such, people have lost guidance and just become like all the other cabals. Also, it has a cabal credo that just seems kind of confusing. I've played each of the aligns - goods aren't supposed to attack paladins unless they're in the way at the Spire, evils should ally with the orcs, but feel free to kill anyone and everyone without rhyme or reason. Meh.. Don't know. Seems the place could be a lot better structured in its unstructuredness.

If anything Outlanders would be killing Entropists for the same reason they kill Scions, anyone pretty much trying to cause havoc solely to accelerate the inherent decay of the universe is going to be targetted by hippies. This is really how it should have been when Sylvan was around but they tended to get along great because they could kill Tribunal, and today possibly Empire.

I think two core examples of why the cabal could come back now that there are actual rewards for not being a complete ####ing moron that fails to be cunning or clever are Maran and Empire.

Maran was both a religion and a cabal. I'm talking Shokai, not current Baerinika-era who seems to be confused as to what the Shokites want her to do and be. But for whatever reason people gravitated to the cabal when they could have stayed with the religion. It certainly wasn't the powers, they were worse then than they are now as far as I know. So, what is it that made the cabal fun to have?

Empire as I see it, when it returned was kind of forced into a square-peg round-hole situation. I wasn't around for original Empire but I'd already heard stories and logs about the structure allowing for the Legendary Russian Permas with No Consequences. This has come right back full circle, with entire councils having been suspended for cheating only twice since it's return. At least two other entire councils needed to be suspended and haven't.

So, Empire is either an argument for or against bringing back Entropy in that sense, but I'm sure because you can give out Imm-XP it's far less likely to breed a constant stream of idiots that will make you want to shoot yourself.

If there are game balance concerns about doppel, assuming you leave the other powers as they are, simply make it a leader power and then give leader only to tattooed members of Lyristeon's religion and whomever else imms the cabal.

The final dead-end argument against Entropy coming back is there's flat not enough staff anymore. I don't know what to say to that other than to continue to tackle the perfect storm of problems that I mentioned in other threads.

Let me finish by saying it sounds like Lyristeon was told 'Fine you can have the religion but chaotic stupid better not appear again.' This has worked fine, but if he was never a serial player of old Entropy then it would definitely be hard to understand why it was more fun as a cabal and blows as a religion.

The line separating a Baron of Chaos from chaotic stupid was pretty thin. But the key point separating them both was if you point blank asked them 'Why are you doing this?' they could articulate a reason that made sense. If you could not articulate this reason you pretty much didn't stay an Entropist. Provided you could do just that, everything else about your role was icing on the cake unless you were duergar AP #347559876 trying to get charges using doppel on level sevens. Which wouldn't happen if it was a leader power like insects eventually became.

You could argue that Entropy was one of the more time-consuming
cabals to run, simply based on the fact that everyone was IMM_
induct_only. The thing about it now is that you have few IMMs
who would a) want to jump up and run this cabal again, and b)
have any experience at it. I can't speak for the Mayesha/Grum
days, but when I ran it with Ish and Pico, we tried to run as tight
a ship as possible - which can be hard considering it's a cabal
based on Chaos. The real argument there was always - should
there even be a cabal formed around that? It's an interesting
paradox to this day. I'm not sure if I still have my Pico Chaos
discussion log or not, but I'll look for it and post it if I do.

So YOU were the folks who messed up my perfectly good Barons after I left. Hmmph! I say, Hmmph!

I did have fun with randomly handing out my chromatic flame tattoo on occasion though. And it WAS like herding cats most of the time. Of course, things were a heck of a lot looser when I ran Entropy lo, these many years ago.

Personally, I blame it all on Twist. And 10,000 gnolls. And defending my thesis. But mostly Twist.
