You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

Some of the special-purpose forums are listed below along with their replacements (as of writing):

"Future conjurer protip: If you think to yourself, this is the BEST place to nightgaunt, when it brings my guy back, there's literally no chance they can get away? That room won't work."

What were you talking about? I think I used the correct room for all of my nightgaunts.

Next, what have you got against my rp? How can it be improved?

You sent some off from a room nightgaunts won't return someone to.

Most of your 'IC' conversations are indistinguishable from a conversation on IRC or QHCF.

Edited to add a few quotes:

'You lucky son of a bithc.'

'I'd love to nail gzur'

'A goddamn nexun conjurer gaunted me.'

'where's your aura wand?'

'have my ####'

Wierd. I remember gaunting from 3 places. Next to white cloaks, next to a deathtrap, and in the shadow grove. Huh.

Your list of phrases is all mine.. but I don't understand where you're coming from. I see all of those as perfectly good RP. For example, my mage is nearly at the top of her training... and knows a great deal about magic. Why would she #### around and call "aura" anything but? Why wouldn't she abbreviate names to the first syllable?

You're not the only one who thinks that I'm a poor roleplayer based on how I communicate. I've receieved that same feedback from a couple of players (from here).. But I'm not sure how to fix it.

It's basically just what I said... if, when you're not interviewing from a cabal or other 'turn the RP on' moment, the way you say everything is indistinguishable from the way you'd say it OOC... it's interpreted that way.

A lot of people can convey their ICness without every character needing to have an accept or unique speech pattern, but if you can't, maybe that would be something to try.

You also might consider that your character, IC, probably doesn't have as much meta knowledge of the game as you do. For example, a discussion of the wand system and how it's changed over time pretty much can't come across as anything other than seriously OOC even if you had done it in a Scottish accent.

An ic explanation of the wand system seems impossible to me. I just treated it for what it was. A system which all mages were familiar with.

Thanks for the advice.
