My saves presently look like this:

vs Spell : -63 Divinely protected vs Paralysis: -20 Somewhat protected
vs Breath : -23 Protected vs Mental : 0 Not protected


The AP player I'm fighting is failing lots of spells, but 'deafen' works on the first shot, always.

Just wondering if this is intended.

Very possible that 'deafen' checks for a different save - but if it's meant to check for 'save vs spell', it definitely has 100% success date.

Nothing happened with the deafen spell.

It is the same as it was before.

It is more likely you never understood its success rate.

Some stats vs deafen spell

A character some years ago with around -80 svs:
PC: total was casted 18, successfully 3, success rate = 16%
NPC: total was casted 35, successfully 5, success rate = 14%
overall success rate = 15%

Current character with -80 to -100 svs:
PC: total was casted 62, successfully 14, success rate = 22%
NPC: total was casted 17, successfully 2, success rate = 11%
overall success rate = 20%

and my favorite vs -101 svs:
PC: total was casted 6, successfully 2, success rate = 33%

I believe there are multiple factors beyond simply the save vs. spell.

Off the top of my head, I believe character wisdom and level are two
significant ones.
