You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

in the absence of the Marshall, and Captain, is it ok to seek you out to become a squire? Should I wait until a new captain is named?

If Maran/Acolyte end up without an active leader, seeking the imms (Shokai/Vynmylak/Calradian) is perfectly acceptable, for myself I'll try to get to you as soon as I can, however when I vis it doesn't take long for me to be involved in chatting with someone...so be patient.

Hopefully, we won't end up with in another situation where we're leaderless, but well...these things happen. C'est la vie. As it was mentioned Erenthell is currently captain.

What about going from squire to maran? I see there are several squires, should they each be looking for one of you three imms to talk to/ask for/do your laundry for being promoted? Is it more just like a bolt from the sky and one minute you're a squire and the next you're a maran? Some people are squire for like three days (fahnrore) and then made maran, and others never move up (briessa). What do you recommend to be part of the first group and not part of the second group? (Other than Yaofhil's fine post in the other thread)

Okely dokely, neighborino.

Becoming a full fledge Maran/Acolyte has no quick easy answers as to how it's done. Nor does someone's worth as a Maran/Acolyte instantly show in how quickly they're advanced. For both groups we (Unicle Vinnie, Papa Cal, and myself) are looking for certain things, it's not easy to describe with words...but I know it when I see it. Similiarly I know when I don't see it, and when I see it almost there. I know this isn't helpful, but all the clues I can give as to how to be an Acolyte/Maran are listed in game. Be they in the Fortress, or the Lyceum, or in shrines, or simply by talking to current Maran/Acolytes and figuring out what it is they all have in common.

It's my hope that the current leaders, and future leaders will be as selective as possible in chosing squires/scribes. I don't want the Fortress to be watered down, nor do I ever want anyone thinking it's an 'easy in cabal'. Yes, I want you to work for it. I know there's a lot of people who are going to bitch and whine about that statement and scream that I'm demanding too much out of a game...but if you feel that way then the Fortress is clearly not the cabal for you. As an aside here, an explanation for why I want Fortress to be something that is a challenge, is that I've found that people give a damn when they have to work for something, and myself and the rest of the staff have dumped a considerable amount of time into it...so we give a damn, I enjoy seeing that same care from players of the cabal.

Hope that answers any questions, if not, keep asking and I'll keep answering.

He appears to have been made Captain this evening, or sometime in the last day or two.
