#238, "Empowerment woes."

Well, I rolled a paladin, wrote a good desc, a role, ect., and have invested quite a few hours into ranking and roleplaying him. Now, originally I had planned to follow a certain immortal, however, a rather shadowy voice told me I had chosen poorly, asked me a question which I answered and said nothing more.. I assumed it was the Imm I had planned on following brushing me off, and decided I would roll with it. My role doesn't specify what Imm I want to follow, just a lot of things about my character's personality.
Am I screwed? Should I delete, forget my role, desc and name (all of which I really like/put some effort into)?

Who did you plan on following?
What question was asked?
The basic "hook" of your role.
"A shadowy voice" could either be an IMM RPing, trying to deceive you, or a friendly IMM trying to tell you in an IC way that your chosen IMM would be a no-go for OOC reasons (IMM inactive, on extended leave, ect)

My first question would be, are you praying to a specific imm? You said you don't mention it in your role, but are you naming one in prayers? If not, specific praying is ALWAYS better. If you don't name someone or something, it looks like you are shooting for the first imm that says "did you mean me?".
How often do you pray? You should be praying I would say 2 to 3 times any time you log on. No closer than 15mins apart on the prayers. After One pray (wait about 10mins) go and do things you would normally do, and rp with those you normally would. This will get you empowered fast, because the imm can see your character. After a while, go back and pray again.
After a few days, if you get no response, try an in game note to the imm you are seeking. You can keep it in character or out of character. It is good to also mention times you are frequently on. Then continue on like you did in paragraph 2. If a few more days go by then it is time to email the imm (find their email here), or to post like you did on their forum. If you still have no luck, the last effort I would put in would be a note to immortal, and an email to immortal about everything you've done, and approx. how long you've been trying. (I've never had one go to this point)
As far as the shady voice thing, here's what I think. A shady voice usually isn't something associated with a goodie. I would think it's an immortal testing you to see if you would break code. If your imm didn't want you, or didn't think your role would work, they would just tell you flat out.

A couple of things you can deduce from the Immteraction:
1. You were noticed. Either by your deity or another Imm. I believe this to be more good than bad.
2. Either your deity or another Imm is trying to RP with you, which is a good sign. They are trying to see where you stand in your beliefs, faith and religion.
2a. You are a paladin, one who upholds the Light and Truth. A shadowy voice spoke to you. I cannot see how you are being brushed aside. Ample opportunities are available to get empowered with good RP-ing.
3. Many can write good roles but fail to flesh it out with the character.
4. This RP encounter will enable the shadowy voice to put in a good (or bad) comment in your character profile for your chosen deity to read.
My advice: Keep it up. The Imms are not there to screw you, unless you are so dorky that nothing helps. All of them want to make your playing fun and desire you coming back for more. (This is my strong opinion. Flamers not welcomed!)
