#9945, "Reboots, crashes, and bartering."
|
First, let me say I understand that it might not have been the greatest foresight for me to do my first "barter" outlander character with a role that precludes being friendly and asking for much help ic.
But, as CF has gotten more stable, and crashes and reboots happen less often, I can see a definate problem with bartering for important things, let's take return potions for a specific example.
Recently they have come down in price, YAY. However, I've yet to find a return/recall potion that can be bartered for with an item worth less than 20k copper, minimum. Sometimes not even one worth that much.
I've tried to find cheaper return potions, I've tried to find stores of higher-value items to barter, I've even tried to find things that potion/scroll/staff sellers would be more willing to barter for that are worth enough.
I've found a few items worth enough, some very hard to get at my current level. And I'm finding it hard to deal with only being able to get 2-4 return potions per reboot.
It is just disheartening to work hard to get some high-level 87k worth item, barter it for 2 recall potions worth 2k each, only to be unable to get anymore for a week because the shoppie already has one.
Sure, I know you say to find something the Shoppie wants, but I can honestly say I've spent alot of hours trying to come up with things that potion sellers want (obviously not weapons or armor, it seems) and can't find any that are worth more than a fraction of what a return potion would cost.
Are there any hints you can give a new barterer that might help out without giving any secrets away?
Have you guys taken into consideration how longer times between reboots can tend to hamper bartering, especially for items that I kindof think of as necessary (return potions, fly, maybe teleport).

If you don't mind the cities much, the mage in Galadon and Seantryn will swap you return potions for some mildly valuable wands or staves. The other place that I like to use takes a bit more of a pain in the ass (see my post on Qaledus forum) which is what you may be referring to. There's enough items out there to keep getting them, but I do agree that they're a pain in the arse to get at times. However, as I understand it, if you get enough commerce points - your problem will essentially vanish. You're doing the right thing, just probably not in the right place. On the bright side, teleport and detect invis are ten times easier now than they used to be, so you can cheer for that. I imagine there's a place to get returns really easily that I just haven't found yet, too. Good luck.

Apart from those I took from dead enemies.
Seemed to work for a druid. I don't see why a ranger couldn't get by on teleportation potions only, which are a bit more accessible.
That said, the reason I never had any return potions besides those from pk is because I too could never find anything to barter for them.
There is a cheaper potion now than was the case when I recently played my druid, but I don't think outlanders should really be bartering for it.
