#69734, "Explore and Observation XP"
|
I recently noticed that I did not get the obs or exp xp from a place I've gotten before. I was a bit lower level than the levels for the area in the area list. So I have two questions now.
Is it always true that if you go somewhere and you're not right in the area levels that you won't get the xp?
If you do go when you're younger, does that mean you've ruined the place or can you go back when you are in the level range and get it?
I hate to think I not only didn't get just because I went and spent time somewhere, but that I never can now.

No.

The latter. Nothing can "ruin" a spot for you.

So then the question is why didn't I get the xp this time?
Also, if I go back and do it all over again later, will I get the xp? How do I know when it's ok to do that?

You were outside the level requirement for that particular area. They don't always exactly match up with the 'areas' command.

Yes if you are within the correct level requirement.
> How do I know when it's ok to do that?
Try it, discuss with the guildmaster, if you don't get xp then you know you are not the right level. (note that you can be too high or too low for specific areas - although too low generally is limited to area explores).

I appreciate you responding but would like to hear it from Umiron or another Imm that would know for sure how it works.
Also, I went back and looked and I was mistaken. I actually was within the area's level range. I was two levels above the minimum. But I did not get the obs or explore xp that I have received with previous characters that did the exact same thing.
Why would this happen? And, again, if I go back in, say, five more levels, so still in the level range but closer to the top end, will I get that xp?
Appreciate the response already, please continue! Thank you.

I don't know who you are or any of your specifics, so I can't tell you what happened.
But the only things that prevent you from getting OXP/EXP are: - Being a ghost - Conjurer projection (looking / entering while projected doesn't count) - Ditto for duo dimension - Being outside the level range, which almost always does but doesn't necessarily have to match the range listed in AREAS
If I had to guess, I'd say maybe that last point is the case. The min/max level for exploration and the max level for observation are defined on a per room/obj/mob basis in a table and are typically set in accordance with the areas posted level range but the two aren't directly linked.

If I visit the ships before 11, I'm pretty sure I'll get nothing when I try and get them after 11.
Can't say I diligently tested that though.

Also, why have an "Anonymously Post As" space, which when used, doesn't actually work?

It's designed so that I can't pretend to be Destuvius and say mean things about people. Was sorta confusing at first if you don't realize someone has an account named "Explorer".
There's a few other generic-style account names out there that pop up semi-often. Like..curious or something.
