#6745, "Conjurer Ideas."

I feel that the conjurer would benefit
from a more stable damage output from magic
missiles. It is the one thing that they have
at their disposal for leveling, pkilling and
gathering gear until level 20(22). If the
damage were upgraded to be higher on average,
then life would be considerably easier for
conjurers, which wouldn't be a terrible thing.

At low levels, I think conjurers are the
lowest damage output class on the mud, and one
of the more defenseless classes as well. I don't
know the average damage of magic missiles, but
I speculate that with 23 int @ level 22
it runs the range from scratch to decimate,
with a tendancy toward "hits" and "injures".

One last thing I want to point out, is that the
conjurer weaponset is not advantageous to the class
in general. In my opinion, it is a contradiction that
a class which needs to play defensively in melee is
given bad single-wield options to parry with. It would
be great if conjurers could wield swords or maces, and
I think most people would trade axe/staff/dagger to do
so.

Just some suggestions.

Eh. If you're talking evil mages, there's a good place to rank, just have to go find it. I've played enough evil mages in the long time I've been on the mud so I feel your pain.

Parry and shield block are underestimated. You have the same defensives as an anti-paladin does. I understand your frustration but when you hit 22nd level it becomes a significantly different ball game.

Currently I'm in a quagmire myself in some ways, but you just have to stick it out and not force yourself to rely on other people for your learning. There are many sources of learning out there that you just have to find and experiment with.

You're a mage with both parry and shield block, and axe. Count your blessings. Axe is an amazing weapon to have considering the amount of foes that do use it. Those foes that use other things are often overwhelmed by a conjurers sheer damage output and reduction at high levels. Trust me, conjurers are one of the more fearsome classes at high levels for certain people, as with a good archon and elemental you can do some scary things.

Conjurers are potentially one of the hardest classes to kill at mid ranks, on up to hero. I really, truly don't think they need any more power. Not all classes are going to be at the same power level all the way up the ranks. Generally the more powerful you can be at hero, the less powerful you are lower down. It's a trade off, and a good one I think.

Agreed. I think the biggest issue right now that needs looking at is warriors. Good at low ranks, good mid-ranked, and good higher-ranked. Mages have it good at hero, but warriors even more at times arguably.

Certain legacy/spec combos are very, very good, and I'm quite sure this is by design. I don't know that warriors need the hit point bonus that they get though any more considering that there's been a fair share of amazingly deathful warriors in the past while (Jinroh, Blitzenturt, Dwoggurd/Grottimgesh, Rhomelanthos/Cathoria, Djesoe and Enbuergo's felar Fortress guy (sorry man, forget the name of that)). I know there's foils to most every warrior matchup there is and I also know that specs and legacies make the warrior, however, the hp bonus might need a looking at.

Regards.

Almost every one of the warriors you mentioned here had extensive outside help to call on. IE perma buddies, cabal lackeys, etc etc. It's hard NOT to be powerful for instance, with the entire Empire at your beck and call, or a perma muter/healer/both.

If you look at the power only inherent in the class itself, I don't think warriors are especially beefy. They have beef potential, sure, but thats going to be something based more on who the player is and how skilled they are, and these kinds of players tend to play powerful characters of any class.

If they were that powerful at hero, it should be easier to name more than a half-dozen or so that really stood out at the hero ranks.

Look at the premium battlefields, most of their kills come against other warriors. If warrior v. mage was such a good matchup (for the warrior) at hero, you'd expect more dead mages.

If 80% are warriors and 20% magi, you'd expect more warriors killed by warriors than magi killed by warriors, even if warriors are twice as lethal against magi as against other warriors.

Most deaths for most magi come against warriors too.

In short, I don't agree with you on either point.

I've certainly solo PKed with a lowbie conjurer simply based on magic missile. They don't throw the damage of, for example, an invoker of equivalent level, but their defense is much stronger.

I think magic missile got toned a while ago. I'm pretty sure it did a lot more damage before antipaladins lost it. Is this observation true, and would it change your statement?

Magic Missile is quite good as a supplement to a conjurer's arsenal. It doesn't throw the damage of invoker spells or whatever, but invokers don't get servitors.

Actually, its damage has gone up since those days. It used to do the same damage, but throw only one (1) missile regardless of anything.

Of course I deleted then rolled up a Gnome conjie and maxed his mana.

At level 16 or so I went to Akan and killed a party of three with Magic missle. Duergar warrior, human thief and something else.

Conjis are powerful.
