#6278, "Being wanted and dieing to protector mobs"

Is it really necessary that you suffer an exp penalty in this scenario? Not only do I seem to lose all my gear everytime (this is (somewhat) a minor issue), but also do I get an exp hole, which means spending a lot of extra time doing an activity I find rather boring anyway (ie ranking, often with average gear, since I was fully looted).

And yes, I should try to avoid getting wanted, and I do so. Yet, sooner or later you'll miss that duo'd or hidden tribunal, or the one that just walked in. Being wanted should be fun, not utterly frustrating, as it is now. Unless you're hero-range, it always seems to lead to disaster.

So what I propose is that the code checks if you're wanted or not, while dieing to a protector mob. If so, you don't get an exp penalty, you do get one when you're not wanted, or when you die to a non-protector mob.

* With protector mobs I mean all mobs that attack you when wanted

Anyone who complains about an 18k exp hole is spoiled.

*shakes his cane in your general direction* "Why, in my day...."

Characters get XP deducted when they die to "dumb" (i.e. non-player-character) mobs. This includes normal, everyday aggressive mobs as well as protector mobs that happen to be aggressive only when you're wanted. Becoming a criminal is like signing up to have alot more aggro mobs than the normal person. (Not to mention being unable to use many shops).

If you really, really feel hampered by this, which I tend to agree with, then you have two choices. One, don't attack people in town. Two, go somewhere and suicide whenever you get wanted. This second option should motivate you to be very -selective- about who you attack in town, since you know it may carry a high cost.

If it only leads to humiliating death, or being law-abiding, regardless of ethos/role.

Somewhere there's confusion here, but I'm not certain who's not getting what.

If you don't like humiliating death, or law-abiding, then DON'T GET CAUGHT. That's sorta most of the point when ANYONE is a criminal. Tribunals are trying to keep law and order in towns. Hell, if you get wanted, you've already been caught once. Now it's just a matter of trying to avoid people while they hunt you down. That's where most people find being a criminal to be fun.

I'm thinking of just the mobs, not tribs. Tribs are easy enough to avoid. It's those mobs you never know were so orderly that are a bother. Or suppose you're a wanted Outlander thief who has to retrieve from the Empire. His cover (and full health) will be blown way before even reaching the lands.

The cause isn't relevant. It's a large part of the incentive to not get caught.

I've found at least one way to quickly die and not incur an exp penalty.
