#6158, "Knowing what your abilities do"

Something that's kinda bothered me for a while is not knowing what effects your skills/spells/sups/songs/whatever have on other people. As things are, it seems like the best way to learn about a given ability is to be on the receiving end of it. It just doesn't seem right that my opponent knows more about what I just did to him than I do. It's kind of frustrating because I can't make informed decisions about what tactics to use when I don't even know what all is at my disposal.

How about making more detailed helpfiles available when you get an ability up to a certain percentage?

I'm not sure what the proper solution is, but I agree that it makes little sense. Getting a more detailed helpfile when you perfect something, for example boneshatter or kansetsuaza, etc., telling you how much -str and -dex would be great.

We all know that that some things are kept deliberately hidden, but this kind of thing, which by definition isn't by your own enemy, seems like it should be made known to the person doing it.

I can't ever see giving out exact numbers. Especially when those numbers may fluctuate based on some complex formula. What I could see is for the effects of a skill or spell to be described relative to other skills/spells received by that same class.

A good example would be the effects for the various hurl locations. Describe how they relate to each other, i.e. why you'd want to use one over the other. That's what should matter to people anwyay, not the actual numbers.
